and she's on the road to Miranda from the NSW Central Coast.
I had a squizz around and it doesn't seem to be an urgent safety issue but I am still not happy with this situation.
What kind of repair is available and what kind of costs are involved do you think?
The leaking steering fluid cost $2000 and new timing belt etc $1000 from the 'Experts' up this way.
The 1998 C70 now has 65,000klms on the clock.

It's a common failure and purely age related, there are people who do it within the Volvo community.

Nothing to worry about.
It may come and go.
The abs unit can be repaired, talk to Mark at Berry motor group for the contact, or he may have one on shelf or available from Midwest Abs in USA, you can buy outright or exchange with them.
I have unknown but nice looking abs unit here you could use to send for exchange if you were interested.
Voldat or Masons Prestige also can help

egads
You can also reflow the solder in the unit yourself with a dremel to open the case and a cheap gas soldering iron or a decent powered electric one.

Thanks V,Sn & E ... good info to keep.
The car came back all the way with no ABS or TRAC light on so ... just a puzzlement.
If it becomes a drama the advice from Snoopy seems to have it all covered.
But for now, moderators, problem 'solved'.
Ex850R
You will need to fix the abs unit.
The other issue can be a worn ignition barrel but it's a low mileage car so maybe not, unless key is loose when turning it? No indent feel?
Max
Thanks Snoopy,
Car has been a delight these last few weeks. Key in barrel is as it should be in a 'young' car.
On Saturday, 'N' ( my sweety) started car and moved outa driveway into street. Drove down steep hill and TRACS came on for a few seconds but disappeared when leveled out. She drove to Liverpool and back - over three hours in mixed traffic - and no light!
C70 now has 66,000 kms on clock.
Will keep an eye on it and get back if I do need to take action.
Max
Will be closing this now thanks all.
The TRACS light still appears now and then but so spasmodic we're not worrying anymore.
For example, 250kms drive to Nambucca Heads and no light and driving onto bumpy tar road to cabin, on it comes. It's on the next day. Stop at garage for fuel. Start car and no light.
Turn right at roundabout a few K's from home and on it comes!
I think it's a dicky dashboard thing as my 'as new' S40 has the cruise control light on all the time. This's what the chap I bought it from was told by the mech.
I tried to get the wheels to lock up on a dirt road last week as well.
Cheerio all.
