Steadfst;151697 wroteJust wondering what the best method for flushing the AW55 is? I've seen an XC70 get flushed by draining the fluid via the drain plug, then refilling and running through the gears to mix it. Rinse and repeat.
That's a different transmission though, not sure if that's the best way with the AW55?
Also, any recommendations on ATF? Looking at Penrite ATF LV, which is JWS 3009 certified.
These questions have come up here a few times, but I've give my 2c again...
You want Penrite FS, not LV.
There are two methods for changing the ATF. The official flush method (described in Vida) is to disconnect the hose from the ATF cooler and run it through that way. That's probably a bit more efficient and will save you a few litres if you can figure out how to disconnect the hose, and find PVC hose that is the correct diameter.
Personally, I'm an advocate for the drain and fill method, because it is so easy. Just drain the ATF from the pan (4L), and fill with another 4L of Penrite using the dipstick hole. Drive for a few KM, and then repeat. I use a hand pump and fill from under the car, so there is no mess.
Whichever method you use, you will need a spanner for the transmission plug, a socket won't fit.
