Where the belts come from the side of the driver or passenger near the shoulder , the belt wears through the plastic causing the belts to fray.Fix on the V70 is a new insert where the belt comes through but on the S40 T4 there is no insert so the belt wears the plastic out and runs deep into the trim causing the belts to fray .
Solution is s/h belt easy to replace and reinforce the trim by welding plastic from the bottom or the side panel in the worn groove in the plastic and around the inside of the plastic trim where it can not be seen .
or replace the panel with a new one $$$$.but if you just replace the belt in no time you will ruin the belt as the damaged plastic cuts up the webbing .
It is an easy job to do only a few minutes .Welding the plastic takes time but is worth it .
