This is the 90 Volvo 760 GLE that I had in Taiwan when I lived & worked there between 2005 and 2009. I also had a 90 740 GLT 16 Valve there which I'll post photos & details another day.
I bought this 760 from my parent's neighbour shortly after I moved to Taiwan. Built in Sweden for the Asia market (market code 45, which coincidentally is the market code for Taiwan since 1993 but up until 1992 it's the market code for Asia), it's equipped with the B280E engine & AW71 auto gearbox. The B280E is rated at 170bhp thanks to the lack of catalytic converter and different cylinder head & camshaft compared to the Aussie market B280F which is only rated at an asthmatic 147bhp. A third version called "Scandinavian B280E" is rated at 156bhp, it also lacks catalytic converter but uses the cylinder head & camshaft from the B280F.
Over the 4 years I've done quite a few upgrades on it. Here's the list of exterior / suspension upgrades.
- added headlight wipers (pre-wired)
- added beam adjustment motors to headlights (pre-wired on LHD models only, unlike 960 95- these headlights do not need to be replaced, motors fit on the back of existing headlights)
- converted to 940 95- Turbo egg-crate grille with chrome bezel
- added front mud flaps
- converted to S/V/C70 99- windscreen washer nozzle, mist spray type
- converted windscreen washer tank to 4.2L (originally 3.2L)
- added windscreen washer low fluid warning sensor (pre-wired)
- converted to S/V90 clear lens front fender side indicators
- added boot lid spoiler, rubber lip style
- added reverse parking sensors
- added "CLASSIC" boot emblem from 940 98
- added rear anti sway bar from 960 91-94 (dealer fitted, requires swapping the rear suspension subframe)
- added gold pinstripe (dealer fitted)
And the interior upgrades...
- added wood dash / door panels from 960 93 (different wood grain to 960 94, I prefer the 93 version)
- converted to 960 94- ashtray
- added genuine Volvo GPS mounting bracket for Garmin Nuvi 760/765 (dealer fitted)
- added door sill moulding (standard on S/V90. 960 95- also got them but the sill moulding has "960" instead of "VOLVO" printed)
- converted to 960 92-94 leather steering wheel, no airbag
- converted to 940 93- automatic gear shifter assembly (940 shifter has overdrive switch)
- converted to 940/960 95- illuminated power window switches
- converted to rear window & door mirror demister switch (originally rear window only switch, heated door mirror glass pre-installed)
- converted radio head unit to SC-816 double-DIN with CD player
- converted radio amplifier to 4 x 40W (originally 4 x 20W)
- added HT-237 rear parcel shelf 6"x9" speakers
- converted to 960 92- indicator & wiper stalks
- added cruise control
- added beam angle adjustment switch (pre-wired on LHD models only)
- modified & fitted separate front / rear fog light switches (originally combined dual position switch)
- added outside air temperature gauge
- added 960 95- centre armrest & drink holder
- added heated front seats (added wiring, switches & relays. Heating elements pre-installed)
- converted to 940/960 92- front headrests
- added rear door roller sunblinds (rear window roller sunblinds factory fitted)
- converted original aluminium sunroof to 940/960 95- glass moonroof (dealer fitted, requires swapping headlining too)
- converted front foglight relay to Finland, UK, Belgium & Netherlands market spec. which allows front foglights to be used with parking lights, high & low beam headlights (original relay Japan, Malaysia & Thailand market spec. which only allows foglights to be used with high beam headlights)
- converted seat belt reminder relay to US market spec. chime relay (pre-wired on LHD models only, Aussie market got the chime relay on 960 95- and S/V/C90)
- added Volvo Guard Alarm (VGA) 2.2 (same alarm & remote locking system as my current S90's)
All work done by myself unless otherwise noted, using new & used parts but always genuine Volvo!
