Rob I can confirm they will fit, with a couple of minor modifications. 1. The fluid entry point is at the top of the 850 style and in the centre of the earlier ones. With a little bend here and there the existing lines will fit but if you are really fussy you may want to have a pair of slightly longer ones made up. They need to be about 25mm longer to allow for a nice big curve. 2. The 2 mounting bolts are different. You will need to use the 164 bolts as the 850 ones are slightly smaller and slightly shorter, this also means that you will need to drill out the caliper mounting holes from 10mm to 7/16. Easy peasy. The mounting pads are a couple of mm thinner meaning the bolts go in further and protrude a little more, they still clear everything so this is no problem. 3. Piston size - The calipers I removed had 38mm pistons, had to measure them to determine the size, I am not sure if they come with different sized pistons or all are the same. The replacements by chance also have 38mm pistons. Quick internet search suggests that 38 and 40 are common but there are also some with 36, 34 and possibly more. This is easy to determine on the newer ones as it is stamped into the outside of the caliper (on the only flat machined surface). Out of interest I checked my C70 and they are also 38's
Blue164 Ok, i seem to be missing something here, if the pads are the same and the pistons are the same, then the only change is cosmetic?
Rob :) The calipers that were on the car were over 40 years old and in poor shape, I have had them overhauled and they have since started leaking again. These later calipers are an easy fit and were on cars up to around 2000 (perhaps even 2004 on the C70), so they are much newer and theoretically in much better shape. They are also significantly lighter and I would assume disperse heat better.
Ex850R So the parts 850 I have is now worth $100 more to me? Great info this! Now what do the fronts resemble?
