Philia_Bear Btw you can easily clean the pcv out using a couple cans of carb cleaner. It's not hard... Just make sure you have some extra 5/8 heater hose, hose clamps, and an intake manifold gasket sitting around
It's sub $80 For the parts (+shipping) and with a fresh pcv on the car it will last for 10years
I've never seen the point on cheaping out on the pcv
I do see the point on being cheap everywhere else
Btw pcv is NOT a regulrar maintenance item on a Volvo so they are just a fix it when it clogs thing
It is a bit disappointed for a brand like Volvo not to mention in the log book service/maintenance the replacement of the pcv oil trap every amount of km's. If I may, one question for you @Philia_Bear, if a XC90 2005 150,000km had the following report from Volvo dealer when connected to VIDA:
"Found multiple faults logged including Air Mass Fault, Oxygen Fault and misfire fault on cylinders 4 & 5. Checked and found oil trap blocked, carried out replacement and new ignition coils for cylinders 4 & 5. Cleared logged faults and road tested all OK" Also, they found the thermostat was leaking and they replace it as well.
How to know if the "blocked oil trap" has already damage the engine, seals, gaskets? Where should I look to see if these signals? I am asking because I am going to see a car that i might end up buying and the owner showed me the report done 2 months ago.
