Morning all,
I have a kind-a-volvo, which is on NSW conditional rego with the dream to drive it to and from regularity events across the state.
With that in mind I hope to modify it within the rules of the conditional rego, whilst still making it as race-car-ish as possible. It will serve no other purpose then getting me to an event / club day / motorkhana khanacross etc etc, so I can be pretty comfortable with the levels of discomfort it might present in regular driving.
The conditional rego is really just to serve the purpose of using the road network without applying for one of permits all the time.
Oh this kind-a-volvo.
The kind-of-volvo, got it's plates last week on the CVS scheme. That is historic vehicles that have been modified, outside the guidelines of the VSI. This can become confusing quickly so long story short, this scheme seems to have been designed to catch things like 10" wheels on torana's, turbo RB30's in VL commodores, 9" diff's in falcons. You know, what everyone used to do with historic rego anyway.
So now we have HVS (Historic Vehicle Scheme) available to those that are concerned with traditional tyre widths and handling characteristic's, those that keep vehicles as original as possible, and CVS (Classic Vehicle Scheme) where one is now permitted to modify, within the VSI as suitable to the year of the vehicle. I.e 6" wheels on MG's, Turbos on 240's, etc etc. You can read the memorandum of understating below!

Things outside can still be done, they simply need an engineer to sign off as traditionally done.
Anyway, I'm here because there seems to be a general younger sympathy to n33bs like myself whom want to get into old man motorsport without spending real money ;)
Another say, marquee based forum are often concerned with how loud or comfortable it may be, and to what degree say overly large modern Tyre choices ruin the typical handling of a generally great passenger vehicle. There is support, but it's not as blatant as this place. So call it a second opinion, no, just further research to see how another community solves problems ;)
So, I can't imagine I'm the first here to rego a classic vehicle with want of use for motorsport, I have questions currently about the interior.
Prior sources have suggested that "no sharp edges" be present as a guide with what one can do, I've tried to dig up the relevant ADR's but there doesn't seem to be one that talks about interior materials specifically outside of seatbelts and safety glass for the front windscreen.
the Second edition ADR covers my "kind-of-volvo" as it was born in 1971.

Should I assume those are the only items the ADR control for (as referenced by VSI-6 (below)
http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/roads/safety-rules/standards/vsi-06-light-vehicle-modifications.pdf
..and I'm free to add perspex side windows (rivet them up) remove the windows mechanisms and leave the interior bare?
I note it also doesn't seem to mention anything about holes in cabin floors..
Yours' in cheap motorsport,
Dan
