You generally wouldn't solder those connections, a good quality crimp would be more than adequate

I mean, it won't hurt, but it's less preferable than a crimp. Do you have a photo of the failed crimp? Kind of curious to see what sort of crimp was performed.

Sorry no photos. I might just buy a whole new lead but it's a long one that goes from the battery under the motor to the starter on the other side. I recently replaced all the ones in my 164 and I couldn't find one long enough at the auto stores.

Brand new leads from manufacturers are not soldered. Crimping allows the cable to stay flexible unlike soldering.
