Girling or ATE?
Also new springs and shocks are en route
I thought all rears were Girling?
And all fronts were Girling by 1989?

Nope not all. Those are girling but I've seen earlier 240's with ATE rear calipers.Spac;120866 wroteI thought all rears were Girling?

As VolvoHordz noted those pictured are Girling - which have the straight pins and hair-pin clips. ATE have the snap-in pins without the hair-pin clips. Most of the later 240s I've seen here in AUS have Girling rears and fronts. Interestingly I think most of the later 240s in the USA have ATE rears (not sure about fronts) so if you order anything online from the US you can accidentally get the wrong bits. I'm pretty sure US cars had a label in the boot with the brake manufacturer code on it, but not sure about AUS cars.

@carnut222 (or anyone else)... FCP & IPD only list ATE rear brake hardware kits. So they don't fit? Where do you get one for Girling?
Sorry not sure as I've never bought a hardware kit. I'm sure it's available somewhere in AUS. Interestingly I did a Google search and found this listing for a Girling rear caliper for 75-82 240 listed on eBay in US so the early US cars must have had Girling rear calipers. Not sure why ipd and FCP don't stock the kits. I searched the ipd website for 1976 244 and it showed Girling rear pads...but no kit available.familyman;121227 wrote@carnut222 (or anyone else)... Yeah, that's the train of thought I followed too... they still have Girling; so must have kits; checked IPD; no kit there either. The pins in the ATE kit narrow at the tip and have some kind of collar at the head. As seen in Ben's first pic above, Girling pins don't. And while the ATE spring retainer may fit, it doesn't look the same as the Girling (to my memory anyway).

Just found this - but it says it doesn't fit my car - and no anti-rattle/spring retainer, so no idea if it fits!?

That looks like the one for the 1800s possibly. I know they don't have the spring retainer like the 240 rear Girlings.familyman;121264 wroteJust found this - but it says it doesn't fit my car - and no anti-rattle/spring retainer, so no idea if it fits!?

CVI stock rear Girling stuff for 240s, but they're about to shut down for a few months due to water damage at their business address. If you want 'em, get your order in quickly before the Nov 9 and 19 shutdown.
