He kinda sold us a bit of a lemon honestly.
Rob
ok. My 2 bobs worth.
1. I know the bloke you bought this car off. He certainly qualifies as an enthusiast. The thing to remember is that someone can be an enthusiast without being an expert. The bloke would never intentionally do the wrong thing but he clearly only had this car a few weeks and judged it based on the way it presented... I doubt he drove it much at all.
2. It is a common misconception that the racks are different from a S70/V70, they are identical. As is the entire front end with a couple of minor exceptions, namely the front steering stops, wheels, tyres and possibly springs/shocks. The C70 runs slightly wider wheels and tyres standard, as such they came with bigger steering stops to stop scrub, this will make your turning circle bigger. also, turbo cars have thicker shafts and bigger cv joints, this will also limit your steering angle. If you don't like the way this one turns I highly recommend you stay away from an AWD one :)
3. Going to 205's will not affect your speedo too badly. All P80's run the same road speed sensing equipment and plenty of them out there are running 205's
4. The convertible will always ride and handle terribly much more harshly than an equivalent car with a roof. The convertible runs solid front subframe mounts and a couple of steel chassis reinforcement braces to stiffen it up, without this it would twist and wobble even more than it does now. In addition to stiffening it up it also makes the front underside of the car an inch closer to the ground.
5. The wheel arches are a completely different shape to all other P80's so the measurements you are taking can really only be compared to another C70. That single photo of your car does make it look low. I do have a standard ride height C70 convertible that I can compare your measurements to when you get them..
Finally. PM me if you want to sell your ohlins. I have been looking for a set for a while.

I just bought new 225s for the front, and I noticed when troubleshooting a wheel wobble which has turned out to be a buckled BBS wheel, that when we put the wheels from the V70 on the C70, the STM light was acting erratic, will the diameter between a 205 and 225 be an issue in this sense? We are used to the bus turning circle so that's no much of a bother anymore. I just need to give the car extra ground clearance to make it pleasant to drive where we live, at the moment there's roadworks and all sorts around our area, along with old unpaved roads leading to new development areas, we're used to the roads being shit, but obviously this poor C70 can't cope. I frankly love the car for all its faults and don't truly wish Mike any ill will, I'll send through some pictures of the ride height. Also if I go to standard front springs, will this cause issues at the rear end as it seems totally fine as far as I can tell. I'll have to think about selling the ohlins if this car keeps needing parts the way it needs them now. I just want to have a sorted cruiser, it's not a sports car, my mother drives it to commute to work, so high performance driving isn't something it will be subjected to often. I also think all the scraping and bumping on the subframe is what is causing things like the oil cooler to break. We have had to recondition driveshafts, put new struts and tyres since when I bought the car from mike, it had 235/45/17s at the front. It was actually pulling the guard lip out on full lock. He dropped the car off for us at the airport, it handled like a waterbed on blown ohlins struts and oversized tyres.
Rob
The wheels from the V70 should have had no ill effects on the C70 whatsoever. Odd that it did something unusual... maybe coincidence, did you have all 4 on there or just 2?
The rear sits quite a bit higher than the front in standard form so raising the front a little wont hurt.
Anyone who buys a convertible and wants it to handle like a sports car is going to be disappointed, a cruiser is what they are, kinda has me stumped why it would have ohlins in it in the first place...
Once you get those pics and measurements send them my way and I will compare for you.

Rob
can you take a measurement from the centre of the wheel to the wheel arch lip?
STfour
Sure, just a sec
STfour
Ok so it's 35/6cm from hub centre to wheelarch on all four corners
Rob
ok, will check these ones and get back to you
STfour
sure thing
morgan
Don't think he owned it long , not sure he would have screwed you on purpose
STfour
Idk, either way I'm determined to make lemonade so I'm curious to see how low my car actually is.
Rob
Standard ride height C70 convertible
Front: Ground to Arch 64.5
Wheel Centre to Arch 35
Rear: Ground to Arch 65.5
Wheel Centre to Arch 36
Car has 205/55/16s on it so that would explain the difference in overall height. The wheel centre to lip should be the same regardless of tyre size.... and it is. I would suggest that your ride height is standard.
Rob
Just for interest. I did the same measurements on my coupe.
Front: Ground to Arch 59.5
Wheel Centre to Arch 30
Rear: Ground to Arch 58.5
Wheel Centre to Arch 29.5
That is running 235/35/19s. not much ground clearance under that one I tell you :smirk:

So to my mind that would only leave spring rate and shock damper as the causes of excessive bottoming out.

Usual P80 rough ride as well , there is no way around it...
STfour
The V70 is rough, this is catasrophic
jamesinc
@STfour you in Sydney? You should get another Bruce over who has a C70 and compare
STfour
I'm in Kellyville yeah

Cross Country suspension?
Would ride higher but the rears would need different springs as CC is awd.
I woud look to FCP Euro , the USA spec springs and dampers for C70. they typically have more comfort there.
I just got rear set for my R and its worth the postage. Also got control arms at great price too.
Note - if you are taken aback by post costs from USA take into account that parts here are waaay expensive and the part unit [rice in USA is so much cheaper. Its worth it , PLUS! FCP offer lifetime guarantee! Even on oil filters if you could be bothered sending it back!
