I was about to buy a new Haynes manual (
http://alturl.com/uw6p2) that covers all 240 years up to 1993. But then I remembered someone on a USA board years ago, saying later edition 240 Haynes manuals aren't as useful. Something about them being simplified - missing procedures. I remember him giving an example where a later edition either deleted a procedure found in previous editions, or, it simply said if xyz is wrong take the car to the dealer for repair. Which of course, defeats the purpose of having the book. I think my '93 version does what he refers to. (I think his point was, it was something most people that used the book could handle.)
I have two editions. One I think is a UK version that covers to 1993:
Haynes #: 0270
1974-1993
ISBN: 1859602673
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/292251305660
And an earlier edition that only goes up to 1988:
Haynes #: 923706
1974-1988
ISBN: 1850104026
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/222666779521
(Sorry, I tried to post pics, but it's not working.)
a) Does anyone know if there's a 'better' 1993 version that doesn't delete procedures? Or they never corrected it?
b) I've never seen the other books (Bentley, Clymer, Chilton). Which is better/what are the differences?
c) I see Haynes has 14 days online access if you buy a book. Has anyone tried it that could describe it? (Their "Haynes on Demand" for 'popular cars' only has Ford and Mazda. So they might not even have anything for 240s in this other online version.) Was there anything of particular use, or is it just an online version of the book with a few general videos like how to change brake pads on some random car? (I'm wondering if it could it be downloaded/PrtScn'd into jpg and mpg files in 14 days without going insane.)
