Ok guys, the key locks on both front doors of my 1970 144 will only turn clockwise. The drivers door will unlock and the passenger door will lock. Can see no obstruction or reason for this, everything inside the doors is free to move and does so.

Cheers, Paul
Stick some graphite powder on the key and insert into lock, if you have any, otherwise light oil and only a small amount, and insert key in to lock...

That was my first line of attack... No luck. I just find it strange that both will turn clockwise but neither will go the other way. :D
Hmmmm... @volvodriverman...
Talk to a decent locksmith, they can sometimes rebuild the barrel for you.
Will not one of the classic volvo parts suppliers in the sellers rating section , a Swedish company no doubt , have new ones maybe? Worth a look.

Will have a look see what I can find form a supplier.

Thanks guys.
The other one is to see if a lock Smith can cut you a new key, not a copy but a new key based on the existing one. We had a problem with the 4Runner and a worn key, cut a new one cut to code
Its got two drivers side locks as they only go one way perhaps? Keys worn out?

Keys seem ok. They are not side specific.
They do get gummed up from only ever going one way, or in the case of passengers door never being used. I remember this happening at some point with a 164...

I have been putting in lots of lock lubricant and will continue to do so. Just seemed that both only move one way and that is the same on both locks.
I reckon the key could get worn ina certain way from only unlocking locks too, enough for it to not work the other way perhaps. Got another key?

Sure have, will give it a go.

I originally posted this in March. I would just like to say that my problem with the door locks has been solved, with some embarrassment to myself. It turns out I was using the key for the locking fuel cap by mistake. Funny thing is, it worked, albeit, in a clockwise direction only. Once I tried the correct key, the locks worked perfectly, both directions. See, we are never too old to learn.
