Swapping door locks on an 85 240?

Hey chaps, my girlfriend, Scilla has recently got her first Volvo content; a 1985 240 named Barry.

The drivers door lock does not work, and you need to unlock the car via the passenger side door. Can these locks be swapped over? I had a look around the innards of the passenger door, and could not see how the lock comes out.

Clear instructions (and pictures) would be great, as I'm pretty useless :)

The key barrel is held in by a spring tab on the inside. It slides out sideways, and the lock can then be pulled out from the outside.

What's wrong with the driver's lock? I've seen the actuation rods bend and fail in the past, if the key turns in the barrel, the lock itself might be fine.

Yes they can, just pop the inner door cover off, remove the two Philips screws on the edge of the door @lock height an pop off the retainer either from inside or a thin shaft through the existing screws you just removed, if it has central locking you will have to unclipped the reed switch attached to the mechanism in the driver's side.

Probably going to swap the locks over first, then might look into fixing the other one. One lock, on the drivers side is good enough for me :)

Yeah my 240 had no working pass lock for 6months or so because of the exact same reason. Eventually removed it and soaked it in diesel and freed it up, and fitted central locking all round

Have you found the replacement for the barrel yet?

I need to replace mine as they can be opened with pretty much any key. Was looking at these ones;
