Have my "new" 07 v50 T5 in for a NSW Blueslip and the shop cannot locate the engine number.

I've searched the net for white block number location but there isn't a lot on the net for the above models. The photos are what I've taken on my C30 T5, same engine and cannot find on that either.

Seems to something hidden under manifold cover but it's impossible to see.

I have an endoscope but it's two hours drive away and I know in earlier white blocks I was able to locate it with headache.

Its in the same place as on other whiteblocks

Just lots more shit in the way on the v50

Back side of the block on the left right behind the water pump

Does anything need to be removed to see it?

Best to look from under the vehicle or keep trying from above?

Its also printed on the white sticker on the upper timing cover due to its horrible location. You would at least need to remove the intake pipe to the turbo to get a look at it. We have a small inspection camera at our workshop to read engine numbers as most of the modern euro stuff is in an awkward spot
I know my pre 2000s all have stickers.

Both the C30 and V50, nothing at all. Not even a remnant of anything that was once there.

Sounds like no blueslip till I get my endoscope. I'd rather avoid pulling it apart.

Makes me wonder if engine numbers are often hard to find them other nations mustn't have these nonsense checks on engine numbers..... For the tiny amount of crime it might prevent so much trouble is caused.
Not the first time. Another blue slip shop wanted to spend several hours pulling apart my Mercedes Sprinter(ex WA) to find the engine number. I insisted no parts are to be removed and if the RTA needs it they can find it. The car had to be referred to the RTA so they could find it - found with camera.

Stupid system. If the government wants it to be routinely checked every time a car changed state then it should be regulation that it be clearly visible. That would make too much sense though.

I don't know what year they changed it but the 2011 T5 engine has it next to the oil filter housing.
a year later
I'm in the same boat with my C30. Is it possible to get the engine number from Volvo?
It's actually on the front of the motor near the oil filter housing. It's in a slightly different location depending on year - some easy and others quite a PIA!

Volvo (Peter Warren) were happy to give this to me with some proof of ownership. I imagine they are under no obligation too, so asking nicely (maybe being a customer at the same time) is key. I think they emailed me the number.

What do i need to remove to see it? Because I've checked and there is nothing to see unless I start pulling things off the engine.
I've now got several of these cars and engines. I'm sure on some of them the number is easily seen just left of the oil filter housing and on others it's sort of buried behind the filter housing (on one spare motor I have).

Are you doing a blue slip (or equivalent)? My local blue slip man was happy with the Volvo records.... But then we found it next to the housing anyway.

I'm doing timing and drive belts. Need to confirm the engine number to order the correct parts. I don't trust the rego papers.
Thought the timing belt was same for all of these engines and just the accessory belt tensioner different?

Any reason you suspect on the registration records? I'd just order according to those unless you had a good reason to suspect an engine swap, and even then the records "should" have been updated.

I'll photograph the two spots on my spare engines for interest, but I'll not be near them for about a week.
You're right it's the tensioners that are different for the drive belts and the timing belt, I'm planing to change those too. I don't trust the registration records - my last Volvo was registered as a turbo, when it very much wasn't.
Im pretty sure it's superceded to the later kit/tensioner now anyway for the timing belt

this +1
Thanks, thats good to know. So it's only the drive belt tensioner that I need to worry about
