Picked up Viktoria, my 1974 Volvo 164E from GLT Car Centre this morning and drove it home.

Air-conditioning working again (yippie) and the R Sports instrument pod has been installed. Also now have a full switch bank, namely Air-conditioning, Fog lamp, Rear demist, Aux lamp (actually aux fan at front of radiator), Hazard, Electric antenna (up/down) and double USB outlet.

I still have to get the speedo working with some sort of electric cable drive doohicky.

Next job is to get the windows tinted and put the door skins back on.

I love the I R-Sports instrument cluster! I have a GT Instruments cluster for my '71, but the later 6-gauge clusters are much cooler. Viktoria looks great!

Viktoria is back from Mastertint and looks good. It's a 35% tint so it should keep more of the heat out.
Now to put all the bits back in the car such as door trims, rear venetian, head rests etc.

It's more faded 850TR5 yellow.

I removed the door trims on my 1974 Volvo 164E so that the windows could be tinted (see above).

Now that job is done I need to fix up the trims. As you can see there is some water damage. So I have taped plastic sheeting on the inside of the trims and used the same to cover up the holes in the door. The sheeting goes inside the door at the bottom of the hole so that any drips fall inside. This should keep the trims a little drier.

I used the paper as a pattern to cut out similar from x-ray film. Yours looks good.

I'd use silver ducting tape, the fibre type as the grey stuff is easily compromised by heat.

Ian, most of the paper was gone so I couldn't use it.

Snoopy, actually I have some silver tape left over from the sound proofing jobs. Maybe I should use it.

Tinting is done and the trim panels are back in place. Quieter now with those in place and the windows closed.
Here are some pics of Viktoria that I took at Cars & Coffee, Gold Coast last Saturday. Tinting looks good and should help keep me and my passengers cool.

Just a few minor things to do and she'll be ready for the Tamworth Event in April.

Wow! That is one lovely 164! It will have great presence on the road! I really wish Ihad kept my 5.5inch 164 Steel wheels with the sports cap and chrome trims.....looks brilliant! Hope the Miss goes with new plugs, great motor! Please keep posting!

I still have my five but they need a good sand blasting and powder coating.

It’s a funny one, modern alloys and good modern tyres are brilliant, my 1973 144 will have MiniLite lookalikes (Performance SuperLites) along with its period KMac 25mm lowered springs and bars, but those 164 wheels especially dressed up with the sports centre caps ala 144 GL look spectacular at a show and shine day, I’m keeping my period ATS wheels for exactly that purpose, great look8ng car ?

My latest upgrade to Viktoria is a new wiring harness for hi & low beam. There was more than one volt drop at the bulb end of the stock wiring harness so, even though I had already upgraded the bulbs, the lights were still a bit poor for my liking.

So on to ebay and bought this rather than make my own:

The beauty of this design is that the old light plug becomes the switching source for the relays and power comes directly from the battery. I installed it today and out of sight in the engine bay. The only tell-tale is an additional wire to the battery, all the rest of the connector, relays and wiring are out of sight. I should add that I had to run a longer wire to the battery from the fuse as the one in the kit was too short. But I was trying to hide the upgrade.

Worked a treat with full voltage to the bulbs now. Hopefully I won't melt any road signs. You could make up your own using the same design.

More work on Viktoria today albeit putting things back to "stock".

I spent the morning putting the bumper bar extenders back in my 164E. She still has the front spoiler but the bumper is back in it's stock position. The bumper now sticks out from the bodywork like it should for a 1974 model.
