Update 2 October
Not much progress recently unfortunately. While I have the new carpets and underlay ready, the sound-proofing stuff hadn't arrived as of last Friday. Monday being a Public Holiday no deliveries today. I did order some more soundproofing from Car Builders on Ebay so hopefully it should arrive this week.
In the meantime, I have cleaned the underside of the bonnet with degreaser and then glass cleaner ready for the installation of some soundproofing and hood liner. I also treated some rust spots & bare metal from what looks like the result of an exploded battery in the engine bay. The front and rear seats have been cleaned (& scrubbed) while they are out of the car. A proper refurbish will have to wait.
I'll take the rear hat tray to a local upholsterer and see if it can be repaired/replaced and maybe a mat made for it. It's got speaker holes and holes where the rear head rests from a 240 were installed. I think I'll leave the headrests out for now as they don't match the car.
Some of the original heavy underlay from the cabin will be reused as it's not in bad condition but the stuff in the boot was rotting away. It's gone to the tip. The rubber boot mat seems OK and the largest one I could buy isn't big enough to cover the boot area.
The tow bar has been cleaned, rust proofed and resprayed black. I have reinstalled it but left the tongue off. No broken knees for me. I also removed the rear bumper bar for quick clean. I ended up disassembling it together with the rubber bits. Scrubbed it all, treated the rubber and buffed the bumper bar aluminium. It's all reassembled and back on the car. Looks much better.
I'll have to take an after snap. You can see the new tailpipe in the photo with the bar removed. The exhaust system is in pretty good shape. There's dual pipes all the way back to a stainless steel muffler in front of the axle and a relatively new rear muffler under the boot. So all that was needed was a new tail pipe to replace the bent one.
