Not as yet. I haven't disassembled the unit but I don't know what it could tell me. I suspect it's just all burnt up inside.

At this stage I'm going to put the original point distributor back in to get the car on the road.

Have you asked 123 to "please explain " as yet?

Yes. I sent the wiring photo and he's never seen that kind of damage on a 123. He thinks that it can be fixed with a new pcb and wiring so I;ll probably send it off.

In the meantime I need to find out why this happened.

Well I have Viktoria back from the auto electrician finally after a week and a half.

She's running again but seems a bit lacking in power (points vs electronic ignition maybe).

Also had them install an updated stereo and new speakers - way better sound now.

Downside is the brake failure warning light is on but the brakes are fine as they were recently renovated in a major way with all the discs replaced, the calipers refurbished, the flexible hoses replaced and the master cylinder replaced too.

It might just be a faulty sensor.

Check the wire at the brake line junction point , theres a plunger in there that needs to be reset then reconnect the wire , I know my 140 & 164 had it .

Remove wire , reset plunger ger , reconnect wire in red circle

If you reset that plunger don't you have to bleed the brakes too?

No the plunger is sealed as such , do you have a manual at all it should be in that.

How to reset it.

I fully bled the whole system on the 144 and had to reset the plunger to make the light go out the reconnect wire

I had the whole system done recently but I'm not sure they reset the plunger as they are not Volvo specialists.

I'll get the manual out from the garage tommorow and see what I can find.

From memory , you had to unscrew a cap that has the wire connector on it to reveal the plunger pin (approx 4mm diameter , pull the plunger pin up gently , pump brake.

It's been over 20yrs since I last did it but pretty sure that's the process.

Then reinstall wire connector cap that goes over the plunger pin , that resets and completes the circuit of the warning light.

Hope this helps , unscrew it then screw it back in , that should reset it.

It was an M410, which was a beefed-up version of the M41...4-speed manual with overdrive. Pretty rare in the 164 for sure!!

Mine was a 1973 factory 5spd ,electric overdrive , such a pity the rust got to it , I had it resprayed but they didn't cut enough of the rust out

I've seen blue manual 1974 164 TE , there was one in the Blue Mountains back in the 1990's.

Mine was white with black interior

The green 164 was also a manual

Viktoria was used as a bride's wedding car recently and there are some shots in the latest Rolling magazine.
