What about the original gasket is failing so early?
Vee_Que
It's not, the rest of the race class uses them on different makes, he noticed it ran a bit hot on a longer event and wants to avoid a failure. But the stock one handles a heck of a lot of abuse. And is a good fuse.

VQ. Thanks
We are 90% plus sure it has just started to fail and want to avoid in future. Biggest contributor will be I think the failed fan controller which meant we had no fan on return to pit. No fan not an issue whilst circulating but a couple of minutes stuck still in traffic on return to pit on a very warm day.
We (Well Peer) will be checking everything first for anything else that may have caused it then applying the appropriate remedy should it be needed.
Agree standard HG takes a lot of punishment especially on non turbo but still going cometic for a bit of extra range.
Also agree it is a safety valve and that has been considered appropriately.

When AvGas was banned for rally cars, most people picked up power by switching to 98. Those with properly built AvGas motors had to rebuild, but gained power anyhow.
AvGas is a pretty lousy fuel for race cars.

Good to know and would like to understand learnings.

Have a mate who runs a Toyota Starlet in IPRA, they stopped using E85 and went to 98 and dropped a whole 8hp, so I don't think that all the hype on different fuels quite adds up.
Why stop using E85, double frame front at combustion, that was causing massive impact on the driveline and causing gearbox failures. The car is this one
Watch the vid, especially the second time through turn 1.
The other think with the cometic gasket is that you can reuse the gasket a number of time as long as you don't damage it on dismantle, a quick clean and spray with hylomar.
And Peter, my experience, don't use copper gaskets, doesn't work with alloy heads on steel block.

Thanks Tezza.
