True.....I better refocus!
Thanks jimbo for that useful information! Would you know if the 850R has a heater core near the exhaust?
Jamest5r_
It's near the exhaust as in its by the bulk head but not in the way of anything if that's what you mean

Wasn't @iceton1975 selling one he was going to put on the gul but sold the car before fitting? Might have that wrong but worth an ask
Eugene
Just that the Jettex person from the UK pointed this out to me for the options he has for the 850R. This is how he describes it below:
"The initial difference is that 20-H5R is shiny T304 stainless while 20-H7 is stainless chromium (a lower grade of stainless steel but both have the same warranty).
The other difference is that 20-H7 has a rear silencer while 20-H5R has just one before the rear axle. This is because on some 850s/V70s there is a pre-heater box under the car which prevents the large mid-silencer of 20-H5R fitting correctly. So the factory made this box smaller and adder a rear one to keep the noise in check."

Sorry no idea on that one best look under your car and see :) Bsr do a decent exhaust aswell used to have one of them also had the obx which i put a dent in the dp and was fine with that
Eugene
Thanks heaps for the BSR lead and will check it out. So many possibilities! Arghhhhhh!

Ex850R;115204 wroteOBX is lhd and needs a bash with hammer to clear on downpipe. Pointless when you want to flow!
There is an engine masters episode on header bashing
Ex850R
BShing on or near a bend, in my game ruins flow, guaranteed.
I have dealt with flow in small to large piping as a pipe fitter/Tig welder.
Whilst you say you don't notice any issues, you have no frame of reference as it's a new exhaust......
May as well keep old dp as bashing it makes it mostly the same.

Update: had a Mods Specialist look beneath the car and he says that all it needs is for that middle section bit to be removed and weld a pipe in place. He reckons that given the size of the turbo, it is not necessary to have a 3inch pipe.
Eugene
Was trying to remember the part to be removed - the centre muffler.

@Eugene have you spoken to Thomas Naughton? Regarding your exhaust?
Ex850R
Even the later R or Xc90 2.5 exhaust manifold makes a little noticeable difference so a 3" dp will make a big difference, removing that centre muffler will somewhat.
It's a turbo, it likes no restriction before or after and whiteblocks are a weird beast.

A while back I looked for a long time through many exhaust options, and ended up getting one built at an exhaust shop here in Newcastle. I decided that this was the best option given that off the shelf products are not cheap, and that they often seem to require modification (keep in mind that most of these will be built for left hand drive cars, and as such there can be steering clearance issues).
In the end I think I paid about $1300 installed for a full turbo back mandrel bent 3" exhaust (mild steel) with magnaflow high flow catalytic converter, 2 mufflers, exhaust tip. Quality looks good to me, and it sounds pretty much how I wanted it to.
First up I'd recommend calling a few places and seeing where is actually interested in doing it, and get some rough quotes (maybe use my $1300 as a benchmark). I called a few places who clearly had no interest in working on the car, and whilst they may have done it, probably wouldn't have put in the effort that the shop who ended up doing it did (eg: attention to keeping maximum bend radius over rear axle, flanged joints in all positions necessary to remove components of the exhaust should I want to). If there are fitment problems at a shop, it's on them to sort it out, not up to you in your garage with an off the shelf item that needs modification. You can also get things like extra O2 sensor bungs welded in as a contingency in case you decide to add a wide band O2 sensor later on.
You can also explain to the shop how loud you want it and they can probably accomodate.
I'm sure a quick scan through any local auto enthusiast groups will come up with a few reputable places to start looking.
If you search through these forums you'll find a thread where I deliberated for ages about it, and some photos of parts of mine.

@Rob was doing DP 3" iirc.
