Would a B cam perform better than a T cam in a stock B230FT?

Define better. If you are running an auto around town and want to stop light drag race or tow things then keep the T. If you have a manual and want to wind out the gears then choose the B.

Well I have an auto and want to drag things off the lights so yeah I'll stay T cam. I have this Big cam laying around need to do something with it haha.

Yeah if that the case then the T cam would be more suited to your needs. It runs out of steam by about 4k but comes on at about 1.5k. The B cam comes on at about 2.5k and finishes at about 5k.

Nah but I hear its quite a broad and solid performer. Youd be best off doing a stage 0 on your car before changing cams though.

I went from a T to an IPD Turbo cam in a 740 Turbo with auto transmission, it was a good upgrade, it was still spritely down the bottom but wound out the power much further than the T cam. It's almost like a T cam + bonus mid/high end power.

Personally, I have fitted and use ipd turbo cams on these cars, all with upgraded turbos, Imo the turbo is more important to go to the later model exhaust manifold and better flowing turbo over the cam on a stock turbo. They become peaky with the ipd cam unless you advance the timing with an adjustable timing gear.

Also if you do a search of b230 camshafts, you will find a guide on them and the sizes etc.

Depends if the cam is slotted. The slot on the back is what engages the distributor rotor. If it's not slotted, you could always have a machije shop add the slot for you. You'd need to bring your slotted cam also so they can work out the correct orientation of the slot.

Cams for block-mount distributors don't have any slot at all. If it has a slot, it will work with your head-mounted distributor.

To the second question - yes, the cams all have a roll pin for indexing the cam gear, you can use that to line everything up. Would probably help them if you brought the cam gear too.
