RWD models

The 240/260, 740/760, and 940/960 are all rear wheel drive. Is there any other model around the time of say, the 940 onwards, that was RWD?

You mean other Volvo models? Don't think so... the original S90/V90 would have been the last RWD ones, and they stopped making those in '98.

Are you thinking of the 780 coupe? We never got those in Oz, but there are 2 or 3 LHD imports around...

Or maybe you're thinking of 340/360 series? The first of the Dutch Volvos. They were quite terribly rated at the time, but have a bit of a cult following in the drifting community now, as they are short wheelbase and RWD with a transaxle box.

There are a reasonable few around in Oz - they come up for sale relatively frequently, usually in pretty shabby condition, but often with a manual gearbox.

Nah, not the 300 series... I sat in one in a car yard years ago, went to move the seat the rest of the way back to fit my legs - and it already was - and I'm short, LOL!

Ok, I don't think it's the 780. I thought I saw a photo of a Volvo a while ago. It was a model that appeared to be about the age of a 900 series. But it's dash was different to the 700/900 appearance - it's edges weren't as 'sharp'. And it had different seats too I think. They looked more like comfy lounge chairs than the 700/900 has. For some reason I was thinking it was "S90". But when I looked that model up a couple of days ago - it's a current model - so that's not it. So I don't know what I saw now, but I thought I read it was RWD too, but not many came here. Maybe I'm mixing up two models into one. Or maybe it was FWD after all.

Volvo are re-using some names/numbers, and the S and V90 are those.

The original S90 existed for about 2 years in the late 1990's (I think it stopped in 1998) and sounds like the model you are describing.

First generation x90 is a lightly rehashed phase 2 960. It's really just a name change and typical Volvo year-on-year refinements, more than a significantly different car.

They are still just an evolution of the original 740 platform, although I can't think of any major parts that remained the same from the first 740 to the last S90.
