  • Should I trade my 240 for a T5

I have owned 2 850s and they both had the same issues. The dash creeks and rattles. Pretty much all cosmetics and shoddy at that age. The hood lining is shit. I would stay with a trusty old 240 manual :) but each to their own
I fact that 850 looks exactly like my old car. Same front end. Glass sunroof? Do I see a small lump on the front left bumper? It was sold in Brisbane area
This is my old car. The engine and gearbox are really good. Overall the car pissed me off due to a million minor cosmetic issues. And I was over the FWD Automatic combination.(the worst driving experience ever)
A 240 won't lose value and a manual RWD is where it's at. Turbo or not.
850 is gaining in value if its a good T5, a good R can pull good dollars.
240s are still cheap as and rusty.
Maybe they just have less value in my mind. Fair call.
Roof lining is a problem in most old cars.
240 and Rust.
740 and 850 not so much.
Find me a cheap manual Phase2 T4 and I'll buy it, Nick!

It is a good suggestion, but there aren't many manual wagons out there...
All part of the chase.

Yep a good Manual 850R is worth more than a 240 +T any day of the week.
If you swap for the 850 make sure the radio works louder than your dash! ;)
I have a 2002 S40T4 and a 850R.
Off the mark the T4 is quicker but less top end power. I would say up to 60kmph very similar.
It gives the usual WRX GTI's and EVO type things a good run for their money in the traffic light derby.
At 100kmph on the freeway the R pulls away easily. And above legal speeds the R is a fair bit quicker. The S40 is very nimble more like a small hatch.
I'll agree with Nicko on being a younger driver. When I'm in the 240 and its starts to rain I can't control myself when it comes to drifting but only in the wet don't want to wreck tyres. On roundabouts, I'm getting sideways on purpose cause it's fun although stupid and I fell like I'm going to screw for it one day.
I'm old with a family so I just don't drive like that these days. I enjoy driving quickly on back county roads and have fun in the dirt. But too risky to do it in the city. Not only the damage to yourself but the risk to others and the possibility of getting busted. It is very easy to break the speed limit when they come on boost..

Practising what?
Find some dirt with a good run off and no traffic. Or join a club and do a bit of Motorkhana
Drifting. I was kind of joking. I agree with Nicko. I enjoy going fast in more open areas like valley roads. But it depends what you find fun :) it is so easy to get done speeding. Those new seed camera trailers are a GAME CHANGER
