My third child came along! We've called him Frank. I made some use of paternity leave to get the last few things sorted out.

Completed attaching accessories etc
Installed the motor
Connected up all the hoses, wiring, aux belt etc
... but it won't crank
I tried to pull the code(s) but my ELM327 dongle won't connect to the ECU.
I realised I'd incorrectly earthed the ECU wire (I seemed like it naturally went to the lift eye location, so that's where I put it..). I wonder if I've caused a short somewhere or blown the ECU or DICE (middleman between key etc and ecu) – I haven't managed to find anything obvious yet.
Electrical symptoms are..
- Central locking inoperative
- radio locked
- no climate control operation
- reverse sensor fault on SID
- interior lights inoperative
- immobiliser light completely out (no flashing)
- no crank
so it feels on one hand like maybe I've got some other wiring wrong, but on the other like there is maybe an issue with the anti-theft system – a lot of those issues are "security" things, like the radio lock out, central locking, and not allowing start.
I have the fuel pump fuse out and ignition cassette disconnected so I can prime this thing.
And for the sake of completion it's worth noting that I removed the alarm siren module and tossed it, though I've never heard of this causing problems.

The short of it is I need to get the stored codes to help guide me, but I'm worried that if the ECU is cooked it won't be able to connect even with TechII (GM/Saab Vida-like tool).
I'm not much cop with a multimeter, but looks like I may be learning! If I can't work it out I'll need an auto electrician. There probably won't be anyone local who knows Saab, unfortunately.
Anyway, that's my update!
