Major Ledfoot Another coup;e of questions while we're on the subject - Where can you get the foam sponge-like stuff to re-seal the front section of the heater box with the vacuum motors? The hard, white sealant which seals the upper firewall to the plastic heater fan air inlet (under the wiper cowl) - what is it and where can I git some? What's the best practice for preventing potential water leaks into the cabin from where the evaporator pipes enter the engine bay to join the receiver-dryer? The rubber seal appears to sit on the inside of the car over the evaporator connections, and under the upper firewall.
jamesinc Just search foam tape on eBay, that's what I used when I was re-sealing the joins in the 240's A/C ducting.
John_frisina I had a lot of butyl on my heater box seal possibly from the previous owner so that seemed to seal it OK. I wouldn't recommend it. The heater core replacement came with the foam to seal the box.
Ex850R Butyl is great considering you may never go there again to do heater core. Foam degrades, butyl is forever. I want to buy tins of tar!
