Hey folk,

I'm relatively new to the world of Volvo and have started making some minor 'improvements' to my car.

Currently I am looking at upgrading the wheels on my 87 240GL sedan and am looking at a pair of PERFORMANCE FORMULA MESH GOLD wheels. I am told the 17×7 – ET+11 to +30 will fit front and rear no problem, but am wondering how far I can push it and maybe throw a pair of the 17×8 – ET -1.5 to +20 on the back. Any ideas if this offset is too large/may stick out too far?

Suspension is stock, and looking for a simple option that won't require too much effort. Probably don't want to roll the fenders just yet, or until i'm prepared to repaint if necessary...

Alternatively, does anybody know the distance from the hub to the guard on the rear wheels?

Appreciate any help as i'm a bit of a n00b. Cheers!

Sorry, can't help with fitment, but those wheels would look very nice under that. Goodluck.

Cheers. I have these 17x7's on there currently, but think the gold mesh will look way cooler haha!

Would like to go a little fatter, but likely not possible without a great deal more work...

With the 8" wheel I'd want offset in the 0-10+ range. If everything is stock you'll run into issues on the front more than the rear. Mainly on the inside spring perch unless you're going to use tiny tyres.

Use a tyre/offset calculator and measure everything up.
I recently did this as well with good results
Even looking to get the same rims! just in black
Need to get the distance from your tire to the guard, your current tire and rim offset and sizes to be able to calculate accurately e.g. my 185/70R14 tire is 90mm from the fender on the rear, 40mm on the front . Get a ruler and measure from the tire to the guard, get you a rough estimation. standard wheels on the 240's are +25? I think? says the internet...
i figured i could fit 17x9 (235/45R17) -30 i think, someone tell me I'm wrong please i am also using math not reality

http://www.willtheyfit.com does not take into account the distance from your fender your tire is currently, so you dont know how close it will be :/

hope this helped
I've just fitted a set of 16x7 12P offset. Needed spacers for the front as they fouled the calliper and had to roll the back edge of the rear guard. Filled the guards nicely. Tyre choice 225x50x16 Maxxis M35 Victra.

You don't need to.
You only need to know what does work and go from there.
So we all know 15x6 et25 (oem)
We also know 16x7 et12 works.
One of the other boys can confirm what the eikhers are.

So you input the Oem wheel then, measure the oem wheel against the wheel arch.
Then compare against what you want to use.

Then you need to consider rubber dimensions. That's the next biggest constricting factor, IF you don't want to roll the guard. (Which can easily be done with out damaging the paint)
Thanks for the advice, guys. I am told at the highest offset the 17x8 comes out to the guard 94mm and goes under the car 134mm.

I still have no idea what i'm doing, but this is all pretty helpful.
Just took a quick measurement from the hub to the guard and the 8" would just almost perfectly just under the lip. But would probably rub on the back of the rear guard, even if rolled. Not sure if with suspension mods you could sit it in a little further, or how this might affect overall handling...

Probably best to stick with the 17x7's if/when I decided to change 'em.

Again, big n00b here :)

This is cool. Has it been repainted?

That's 16x8.5" ET-2 on my wagon. Tyres are big 225/55/16 and the guards are rolled all the way around. I have an adjustable panhard bar to help centre the rear end. It looks close but it doesn't rub anywhere.
I am running 16 x 7.5 with a corrected offset of +15 on the front and +0 on the rear. On a low car this required quite a bit of guard lip work.

I reckon 8s on the rear would need an offset of around +20
Suspension mods? Like lowering? That only exaggerates the issue.
Especially with the solid axle rears.
8" yeah might go under, but will require some tyre stretching.
My 142 (ultimately the same rear ends) with the 205/45/16 just scrapes in. And lowered.
I have had 225/55/15 under the back of a very lowered 245. Like many others have.
Rowan (@foxroyale) still original colour. Has been lowered approx. 30-40mm. The performance gold mesh were my first choice but due to budget and the fact that the superlites came up on gumtree I went for them instead. The only problem with the 16" is the limitations with rubber. If you want 205 x 55 x 16 plenty of choices but for extra width there are only a handfull.
Yup, 16" is one that's a pain.
45 and 50 profile do have more options. And if you were after and asymmetrical semi slick, your choices dwindle super quickly.
17" has every size.

Haha I actually just ordered the gold perfomance rims. So if you are interested I will be selling these once the new set arrives... My loss is your gain
