Picked up this 1999 S70, 290k,2.4L 5cyl, auto for $500 last night. New tyres, new struts 10,000kms ago and new belt+tensioner - owner had the belt cover off to show me the new belt but said the water pump wasn't replaced? On other cars i always do the water pump at the same time?

Looks like its been doing the school run for years and is covered in scratches, clears coats gone on the roof and deteriorating down the car. There is some very funky fur on the door trims and centre console lid? Overall it drives very well, nice and solid like my 240s/740s, only thing that needs doing soon is rear brake pads.

I dont know much about S70's, is there anything i should be checking out of the ordinary? Hopefully she'll have 100k left in her! Here's some pics from the ad, will take some better ones after i clean it up a bit:

Wow! Love the fur!
Maybe a pimps car!?
Welcome to P80 s.
A 1999 may have the 5spd auto and electronic throttle which both can be troublesome.

Let us know if it is the update model.
Not a deal breaker but if the auto plays up its curtains....
Sounds worrying! Possible to tell from these pics:

I think i've worked this out properly:
Engine:
61 = B5244S S60/V70 2.4 FWD/ 61 B27A
Gearbox:
9 = AW55-50SN Auto V50, AW55-51 S40D5 AT
Picture of inlet manifold and gear selector area.
Only pic i have of the engine bay (at work), will take one of the shifter when i get home
But looks like the 5spd.
Get ye to a shop recommended by Sydney dudes here. It may be prudent to do gearbox flush and software for it, maybe not.
The throttle body should have a yellow sticker if it's a rectified one.
But, if it all gives no trouble then enjoy!

And yes, waterpump should have been done along with the tensioner and idler rollers plus accessory belt.
Thanks Snoopy, i will definitely do a flush this weekend - any specific fluid? I'm pretty sure the shifter has: P R N D 4 3 2 1, therefore a 5 spd?

I shall have a good look on the throttle body for said yellow sticker. Previous owner mentioned ABS module was replaced last year?

When you say curtains for the auto.......is this due to parts availability or not worth the time doing the job?
I would hold off on flushing till you get advice as it could precipitate problems by stirring up the grit in the bottom. @Philia_Bear is yer man and can recommend fluid too.
@iceton1975 can tell you if your TB is a replacement if no sticker there, it can fall off!
He does reco ones too I believe.
Bear may have parts you need.
They are nice though.
For the roof you could do vinyl wrap, a Swedish flag perhaps?
I did my bonnet in super sparkle black gloss. A mate is an installer so I helped him. Vinyl is cheap.
Will do, it shifted nicely all the way home and i took it through the adelaide hills and got it nice and warm - no slippage. I only mentioned trans flush as a maintenance/failure prevention (no service records that ive found yet)

Good idea on the vinyl wrap - i have a roll at home that i've been meaning to try out on a wreck, i guess the S70 will do haha. Either wrap of lightly sand the clear down and shoot another coat of clear over the top as Spac did with "8-ball".

A replacement drivers seat could be on the cards if she proves her worth (stitching split) but it's still comfier than my 240 seat with a collapsed RHS haha.

Thanks again Snoopy, wealth of knowledge this forum!
Ahh, didn't notice the croweater plate!
Surely a good shop over there if you need them.
If it dies you should be able to swapin a 4 speed on that early of a s70.

Allegedly not, I nearly bought one but was told by Volvo workshop no.

If you are over Melbourne way I have a couple of beige T5 electric seats that will be a plug in job for this..
Spent a couple hours polishing the turd last night by hand, looks a bit better but really needs a cut due to deep scratches. Will get some pics once the suns up completely.

In the meantime here's a pic of the fur:

And the shifter @Ex850R

Oooh, carbon wrap there too!
Look ooze the fur!
I was going g for dark orangey alcantara on my dash....
Seats are yours if you want. Actually, E-GO couriers are very cheap!
Or Bruce couriers network?
haha yes it does have some funky features, maybe a P plater owned it for a while haha

Not sure how Bruce couriers work? How much are you after for the seats? I'd like to drive over to Melbourne at some stage this year to see an AFL game (never been to the MCG)
Seats are yours.
Put out a feeler on general or wanted heading for perps going to Adelaide, they are bulky for a car to take though. Trailer needed.
E-GO are dirt cheap.
Maybe I can cover them with cardboard.
Drop at depot is easy.
All booked online.
Backloads on big trucks.
Awesome, thanks! No doubt ill find a car or something to buy in Melbourne and trailer it back haha - have done with many a time with old toyotas.

Now for the polished turd:

Lotsa wax will keep the clear coat happy I am told.
Looks good.
