C70 Radio - no AM at all.

Hi All.
New to Volvo cars as my wife has just moved from a Z3 to a 2008 C70.
Love the car, and love driving it BUT I am an avid listener to ABC local AM radio and this car has NO AM radio reception AT ALL.
I've googled around and found there is a copper wire that "fixes" (or partly fixes) the problem, but I thought I'd ask if there are any simple remedies to sort this?
Is is a matter of a better earth? If so where? The aerial? or the radio (if so where?)
We checked everything else out on the car and it came up well, but I never thought of checking the bloody radio!!!!!

Sorry, search for my thread on this. It has to be professionally fixed. It is a known failure and not cheap to remedy, but like you I just had to have ABC AM radio in my V50 (same systems as C70) so I got it done. You can take a chance on a second hand replacement but then it has to be coded to the car and that costs, with the added risk of the second hand unit failing.

I agree, just not something you think to check or expect to fail.

Why not use an external digital radio adapter with a proper antenna for it , plug it in to the existing H/U ( somehow...)

2008 C70 has an Aux in port
Internet streaming via phone is what I do

Thanks for the comments. I doubt SWMBO will go with a receiver and wires plugged in!!! I suspect I'm going to be in for driving with ABC classical FM!!!!
I'm going to have a poke around over easter, while I have time off to see if I can find a logical reason for this failure. Yes, as I said, I've seen the info on the copper strip, but I'll see what eventuates.
Next job is to get the timing belt changed to a new one.

This is a Volvo (and ACCC) fail. Apparently it is acceptable for a $1000 radio to fail after 8 years.

Currently using Phone via aux to provide streaming local AM broadcast as unreliable as it is.

and ABC think this is the future if your living in the outback FFS!

I would run this past consumer affairs as, like a refrigerator should last about 10 years you would expect a car radio to last nearly as long as the car itself so I wonder. I would push those buttons if it were me.

Copper strip is highly unlikely to do it. As I understand it, it is an internal component failure - AFM or IAM but usually the latter.
