Quick question guys,

Before I take it down to my local spanner anyone have any thoughts on what may be making a scraping sound that is coming from the left rear brake.

Only happens at low speed and strangely enough is only really apparent when slowing down and that left wheel is a bit unweighted compared to the others. Ie when making a left turn and the weight is on the right rear.

Ithought at first it was a some stuck in the pads as that's sort of what it sounds like.

Pads seem fine, I'm wondering if it is something to do with the park brake shoes?

Thoughts anyone?
My front left was making that sound and only started doing it at low speeds and I got right on it with new ones. Pads looked like they had enough meat but the inner one on the front left had the very bottom edge down to the metal.

Most likely you can't see the edge that is metal on metal.

Quite easy to change so I discovered.
I suspect these xc90's chew through the pads. 2.1tonne and auto (no engine braking) Lol.
Yeah I figure, couple of days off after tomorrow and I'll rip the wheel off and have a proper look
make sure the backing plate not touching as this will make a scraping noise when one side loaded on turns

Thanks @VolvoDeger not the backing plate though. I ripped the wheel off today and checked the inner rear pad and sure enough it has worn down to the metal. The outside pad has a good 4-5 mm left on it so I didn't even think to check the inside.

Checked the right side and that was fine.

Looks like it has rooted the rotor though even to the eye the inside depth on that side of the vented rotor looks under compared to the outside. Damn.

I've only done 6000 km on the car since I picked it up too.

Any suggestions on where to locally source good rotors and pads? Or is it more cost effecetive to go from IPD or FCPEuro etc? I know that in the US they seem to like the Akebono pads for less dust better wear etc.

Anyadvice is appreciated. On the plus side replacing the rotors and pads looks straight forward.
We have no issues with them so send me a txt message 0412192269 and I can do this, need to know year so send me rego so i can look up correctly
Re pads.. I scored a set of TRW front pads from repco for a great price.. $87 I think when they had a 25% off sale. Worth checking for a local sale. TRW pads seem great so far.

@VolvoDeger might have a sale on too. :-)

Just an update guys.

Have replaced the rear pads and rotors in the 90 this morning. Very straight forward.

Considering the last time I messed around with brakes was 20 years ago on my mates HQ SS nearly putting a pair of side cutters through my lip.....it went very well

Thanks to @VolvoDeger for his help, but I ended up sourcing new RDA rotors and TRW Cotec pads online. The rotors look identical to the originals and here's hoping they will hold up ok. Opinions on rotors tend to be like Ford v Holden!

But if anyone wants to know the rotors were $148 for the pair delivered and the pads were $56 for the rear axle set delivered. Arrived by Wednesday after ordering Friday.

About to go and bed them in!
Well very happy with the initial result. I suspect those rear pads have been stuffed since I bought the car 6 months ago. Stops on a dime now ( a very big dime?). Those pads give good bite.

See how they treat the rotor now!

A couple of pics of the left rear pads and rotors. The right was due but had worn evenly.
Monitor carefully as one pad wearing out completely and not the other is not normal.

Note for a few days any smell of a hot rotor and pad, or the rotor on the other side being a different temp.
Sign of stuck sliders or piston
(I forget if xc90 is single or dual piston)
Is it worth getting loaded calipers from centric ie the like from USA or rebuilding the existing ones cost wise?
I guess waiting for rebuild is an issue.
@Philia_Bear is single piston in rear. It compressed easily with the clamp and I greased up the sliders and it was all moving nicely when I put it back together. I'll keep a closer eye on it from now on though!!

On a worse note, on the way to work this morning, Skippy decided he like the look of my car and went like a racer bullet to my driver's door.

End result is a completely smashed drivers mirror. No panel damage though which I'm impressed about as he hit pretty hard with me doing about 85kmh by the time I'd wiped off some speed.

He did leave a nice lot of fur n the rear wheel arch!

On closer inspection it has left a small dent under the door handle. Not bad but the paint has cracked a little which I'm not keen on letting go.
