Yes indeed Matty , tell them its a 16 hour job plus $2000 worth of parts to fix the transmission (true actually.) So give em heaps less on the offer , then sell yours with that tranny and someone will buy it quicker than if it had a good tranny!
Although you could wreck it , I would buy the interior for when I get one someday.

what would a realistic offer on that R be? Im worried about spending much on a "fixer-upper" but that would be a SWEET package once I got my hands on it.

I am no expert on pricing but a couple of R wagons have gone for $15-16,000.
One other one had similar interior , or an orangey one?? And went for similar price so if it needs all the parts and expensive labour to fix the box wouldn't $8/9000 be a start?

And indeed a sweet package , with a ECU full upgrade tune , bigger exhaust , maybe injectors and snabb intake , turo wheels optimised , yes , very very sweet! Ohh , lowered TME springs! Or see Ash about em.

I reckon at 11 it is pretty well priced TBH. Of course cheaper would be nice. At 8 I would snap it up.
The rarity of the colour combo must be taken into consideration too.

I'd have to take out a personal loan and then pay it back once the XC sold.... wonder what I could get for the XC with a busted R trans. $2500??

I take your point Rob about rarity but its only among Volvo fashioni and among them , non have money to buy such a car or have money but wouldn't buy cos its busted.....
I must say Mehmet must be frothing ! I don't think he is buying volvos to keep these days and he would love one I reckon. Broken is better but he would have already offered $6/7K for it I bet.

Anyone know if a standard FWD trans will drop in without ECU issues? Removing the AWD weight might make it a bit more peppy and give it better mpgs. Also, I'm fairly certain the fwd trans should be cheaper.
If I can get $5500-6500 for my xc70 as-is then I'd have cash left over to buy a new/refurb trans to go in this car. If I put a bum trans in the XC then it's going to be worthless. I want to keep this 244 as well......

Ahh Mehmet is a guy up the NSW coast a bit who is a wheeler and dealer , does his own mechanical work etc. Good to have a chat to , very knowledgeable.
Usually buys the good cheap car before you can or outbids you on eBay for a car....
You wouldn't removx the awd , the gearbox internals would be same , transfer to rear would be the casing?

I was curious as to it's real value. NRMA insures the car for $6500 (their estimate, not mine) and when I look on carsales.com.au they range from $5k-8k. I figured $6500 was a decent ask and I'd take less. If the car is only worth $5k and I put a bum trans in it then it's worth absolutely $0.
We all agree it would be ablout $3k to repair the R, is that right? What would it be worth AFTER being repaired properly?

They seem to sell for $15/16000 maybe bit more if the right person is looking at the time.
Worth it for the fun / grin value an ECU and exhaust/ intake and they fly!
When selling take off the go fast bits and sell them separately.
