I think the best way to do this, is to use a a local(AU) freight forwarder with operations in the country of origin(USA). An organisation that can aggregate all of the orders and ship as a single delivery, preferably palletised by the forwarder/aggregator.

So individuals can have their orders shipped (usaually free for the 48 Lower States from IPD/FCP

Scandix aren't as amenable to this process, but you can twist their arm a little.

They can usually look after customs clearance as well. There should be no duty payable on spare parts.

I'm keen to do the research anyway, and if anyone is interested. I will research it and post the details here.

I'm after a few sets of wheels (bulky items) and I've been trying to get onto The Volvo Shop, in Thailand.

They're big on Volvo's on Thailand, as there was a Volvo plant there. Many 940's were built there I think.

Anway they have Pegasus Replicas in all the sizes and offsets, which I believe they get from (China) the same place IPD get theirs. I found that factory in Chine, but there minimums where like 50 pieces. I guess thats only 12.5 cars worth!!!!

Anyway I'll report back.

I do have a business associate in Thailand who I might follow up and chase this down. He'll be keen as he is an avid car collector. He just loves old cars. He owns almost the entire Thai stock of classic Kombi's (VW) along with the obligatory Ferraris, Mercedes, Rolls Royce, Porsche's etc., etc., and motorbikes from the 1900's - 1960's.

Good thing a direct line to the manufacturer! Please keep us informed , maybe a " special order for evaluation of different wheel sizes for RWD and FWD " making up a min order for your business that retails to a small market here of Volvo enthusiasts ( meaning us on this site....he he ) , it works for small items , why not bigger ??
It may be worth looking at http://partsforvolvosonline.com in the UK , we have members here from UK and i have family but they do volvo parts similar to IPD et al and sell IPD stuff but postage to here is usually cheaper....
Maybe an aggregate of Swedish and other Euro volvo part sellers to be shipped from the UK would be better , they make all the best stuff over there and ship it to USA anyway!

I can certainly help sort out a bit of shipping from the UK to Aus; there are a couple of good options, but you're better getting someone to ship directly out as it's then a VAT-free sale (from the UK that saves 1/6 as VAT is 20%)

Ed, on a similar topic... you ever looked at shipping anything as large as a motorcycle from the UK to either AUS or USA? There's a scooter I want that I've only seen offered in the UK for a few years and if I find one I'm curious about shipping costs.

i have a feeling it'll cost 3 times what the bike will cost but it's a dream of mine and worse case scenario I can get it sent to the wife in alabama, registered (no inspections or testing of any kind) and then pass it off to any other state we end up going once it's been "in the country".

What bike is it? I suspect that you're right, it will be a lot of work. For Australia the challenge is to get it in as a classic (pre-1989) as opposed to a personal import, for which you'd need to own and use it for 12 months.
