Hi Volvo friends,
I live in Perth and am about to send my 96 Volvo 850R Turbo Auto Wagon to get it's turbo back to speed with repairs to crankcase and breather system, which is blocked and broken.
Would any of you know what quality/performance parts I can order to replace the system? I have been looking at IPD, but just in case some of you know more out there.
Also, does the IPD reverse turbo intercooler make a big difference to performance and is it worth it?
Would love to meet any fellow 850R comrades here in Perth to seek advice and get tips on doing mods on incremental levels.
Thanks for any help and yes, I need to upload pics of my red 850R!!!

Parts choices are genuine volvo or oem which is uro for the pcv system
The uro stuff is much cheaper and the quality is the same
There are some other brands... they are just rebranded uro parts

Do Rockauto have the system?
FCP Euro.
eBay.
Turbo refurbishment?
Maybe do an 11 blade wheel 19or 20T conversion?
do88 do a ripper RIP kit!
Get the intercooler as well or get an eBay one, cheap and good.
Snabb or do88 hoses, big airbox to turbo hose etc.

Hi, are you referring to the Big Pack Intercooler kit from DO88?
Ex850R
They do a kit with everything, that could be it, haven't looked at their stuff for ages.
I have a used ebay alloy intercooler in my T5, it's good even on hot days, I don't know that spending more than the 300 odd dollars it costs is actually worth it for everyday use, so maybe the IPD and do88 ones are too dear.
VP Tuning sells do88 and even imports IPD stuff, give Mark a call.

I have used the IPD kit works geat

Hi Friends,
Thanks so much and I am getting a clearer pic now as to which direction to head in.
May I ask too if the IPD reverse intercooler kit can be compatible with the DO88 Big Pack Intercooler?
Also, has anyone used an MTE Intercooler before? Any views and thoughts on this?
Thanks again,
Eugene

The diameter of the intercooler inlet and outlet determines if the IPD kit fits but I thought that the IPD kit was just to use on the standard Volvo intercooler so no, it wouldn't fit.
Unless it's a kit for IPD big intercooler then maybe but ask them or check specs supplied by bot do88 and IPD.
Mark at Voldat can be of great help and has imported from both manufacturers and is a retailer for mte and TME I believe, or one or other! 0403 814 545
I could be wrong but maybe the Swedish manufacturer of the do88 is the same for the others from there.
As I mentioned, the 300 odd dollar ebay I/C is a good thing.
The Swedish ones a bigger step up.
Really, unless big power is to be made with other modifications then I would recommend the ebay one with hoses to suit, RIP type or standard routing, use the bigger diameter hoses for it and gain noise, torque and satisfaction. Works for me with a manual boost controller on my T5. (my V70R will get a water-cooled intercooler though...)

Thanks heaps again.
I am running around headless and need to focus.
Priority now is getting the PCV, Breather System and Crankcase and thus turbo back to function and speed.
What would you recommend for this shopping list?
By the way, is it worth installing the IPD short ram intake system whilst the breather/turbo system is being overhauled?
Ex850R
From what I can deduce, the bigger better intake hose that Snabb does for the stock airbox is a good thing, the std Volvo airbox is a great design. so nothing but noise to be gained from it, unless you go massive horsepower.
You have a turbo blowing air in......
Biggest gains are with a later R or xc90 exhaust manifold and free flowing exhaust, let it get the flow out don't worry about a horsepower or 2 on the inlet.
If you get a tune, find an NA throttle body and make that fit with bigger injectors.
RIP kit is only another few HP too, bigger gains with bigger intercooler with bigger hoses.
Get all the sensors while ordering plus a thermostat and a new dips tick, later type with new tube as well as old type breaks, if it hasn't, it will soon.
Order strut top parts X2 or 3 and keep for later.
Get more stuff as postage isn't cheap or email or call them in the states and ask about surface mail, it can be done apparently.
Plugs etc etc etc, check on other posts on what to get, there is a big list.
Make it right first time, sit back and enjoy rather than "nickle and dimeing" yourself broke over a period of time if you do it piecemeal.
Love an R!

Hi Snoopy,
Was looking at SNABB and they have some good prices for what they appear to offer for the 850R.
May end up getting their RIP kit and intercooler as well.
Does adding a Simmons TME exhaust system help round it off nicely?
Thanks again and again!

What are the Top Strut parts?
