It's a stretch to say a 740 was the best car of the 80s though. And I own two..
All 740 turbos had climate control from the day they were released, the 760 did before that.
Just reading through this thread.... I'd always felt the 740/940 were good contenders for best cars of the 80s-90s (respectively). Not the fastest, cheapest, most luxurious etc. But as far as a well built, durable, comfortable car within reach of most I've always felt it's ticked the most important boxes. Yes the plastics in the 740s could have been much better..... But they wouldn't have fallen apart if the rest of the car failed when most of its contemporaries did.
Thread drift slightly, but if the 740/940 weren't the best cars overall for the 80-90s then what would be better contenders? (Definitely not an 83 Holden Gemini or 85 Astra, they are responsible for turning me to Volvo)
