Rotten egg gas is a cat converter not working.

Time for a 100cpi cat and tune!?

Sulphur smell from your Catholic converter may indicate the coming of the apocalypse, but more likely indicates that the engine's fuel mixture is incorrect due to an engine management fault.

You haven't put a cheap manual boost controller on for a few extra psi?

20 minutes to fit a cat is pretty damn fast. You get to see the welds?
Ex850R
250 incl parts?
That sounds good, others maybe rortng you, they all see a Volvo and think we are rich.

Or they use more expensive units and exhaust shops that are reputable charge correct rates.
Ex850R
Could be.
Went to reputable speaker repairer. One I had had my old hifi speakers done at to great effect and reasonable cost, he saw the Volvo interior and lovely paint on my 855R and spoke some gibberish expensive numbers so I walked.

the actual cats do vary in price a lot.
20 minutes is quick but not impossible, especially if they are keen to use a $100 cat and quote $250 amongst the other jobs they have on.
one of my mechanic mates who also does exhaust work did my muffler delete, side exit pipe on the isuzu with a flange to match up to the factory flange in about 10 minutes. for shits and giggles, i've left it on.

Simple cut and weld jobs like that don't take them long at all, it's the jobs that require bending, flaring, making up custom hangers etc. that are more time consuming.
Most workshops will massively over quote jobs that they expect to be a pain in the ass, as it will either make the customer go elsewhere, freeing up time for easier jobs, or if the customer does go for it, they make a good profit.
Same goes for customers who are annoying or difficult to please, it's known as "idiot tax" or "dickhead surcharge".
