Hi,
I recently purchased the above car from Zupps. Has 2 years of the manufacture warranty to go (first registered late 2015), and they gave me 3 years of the Zupps aftermarket warranty. I got burned pretty bad with a national warranty before so I have limited expectation of what value that actually has. Catch is, to get the extended warranty I need to do all services at Zupps.
Can anyone tell me firstly if Zupps can be trusted to do a Volvo service, ie is it bad idea to go to someone who doesn't specialise in Volvos? Also has anyone had experience with the Zupps aftermarket warranty? This is my first Volvo so I'm flying blind on that front!
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

You have been burnt before, go with your instincts.
No extended warranty unless from the manufacturer is worth squat as far as I am concerned.
And you will have a grand old time getting something fixed under it I bet.
Co sumer law is on your side to a certain degree.
Tell us the model details as some on here can Comment as to what may go wrong anyway.

Honestly, the warranties are good if the turbo or similar fails, so yes, actually service the car with them as they ask. That way when it breaks your not out of pocket. Not that a 2 year old car should break, nor should it be an issue for anyone to change oil on it at set intervals.
But that being said, if its still under volvo warranty, its not as important

Thanks both for your thoughts.
I still have the Volvo warranty for two years, but if I service with them I get another 3 after that.
I used to own an x5 and they are really temperamental, so I always went to a mechanic that specialised in BMW's. I wasn't sure if Volvos were like that to.

I just had a look at the terms:
5 years after Statutory or Manufacturer's warranty / up to 175,000 kms
Limited to $1000 per Claim.Total claim value of $3000 over the term of the warranty
Limited Coverage: Covers most major internally lubricated components of the vehicle, plus the engine management computer, as listed in the parts covered pages of your warranty booklet - nationwide.
If the turbo blew up, what would that cost?

It's more the gearbox or electronic modules than a turbo I expect.
In those cases forget it.
It may well suit you to go there if they have a good reputation but the wty isn't worth it in my mind.

read warranty policy as if been bought from car yard sometimes the extended volvo warranty does not comply, if bought from first owner then it will. So to clear it up call a dealer and ask the question is the car under the volvo extended warranty programme as I have just gone through this.
Ex850R
So Volvo will not honour the Volvo part of the warranty either?
Wow.
Have you bought this yet?

I think any car will benefit from seeing a mechanic who works on the same sort of cars regularly. They will know the manufacturer's usual tricks and common faults much better.
egads (she/her)
Extended manufacturers warranty may not transfer but is under regular warranty til 2018 and often you will be offered extended manufacturers warranty as the current owner towards the end of the warranty if you are a regular customer at a dealer.

So calling a few dealers and offering to come there for services and see if they will honour the existing wty and possibly offer a proper Volvo wty to you to extend that one?

I'd be servicing at a good mechanic and walk away from any aftermarket warranty if they are going to force you to get it serviced there

So your talking Brissy, Zupps (AHG) um well um how do I put it, I worked for them for a little while, quite funny to watch the ëxperts" trying to fix stuff.
Zupps are now the Mercedes Truck and bus dealers for Brissy, I take mine straight past 1 truck dealership and drive for 3/4 hr to get dealer work done. That should answer your question.
If your Volvo warranty is still in place ask the local Volvo dealer if they service it will they offer to extend the factory warranty, I know Toyota do it, so ask.....

Dealer "warranty's" are not worth the paper they are written on in Australia
They are not an insurance product covered by the FOS and you have little to zero recourse when they say no to a legit claim

Replacement turbo from Volvo is ~$1700-2200aus at the moment
There are other, cheaper alternatives as well including rebuilds if possible

Thanks again everyone.
Yes, I had a national warranty on last car and had to fight tooth and nail to get a payment for failed air springs. They basically try to say everything is wear and tear and so not covered. There was a great report done on the after market warranty market titled "Donating Your Money To A Warranty Company" which sums it up nicely. Ever the optimist I thought I might hear a good story about the Zupps version.
The Volvo manufacture warranty still applies for the next two years, then it's the ahg one after that. I'll talk to the Volvo dealer about the option of extending the manufacture warranty of I service with them. That might be the way to go.
Cheers, Clinton
