firstcar Hi everyone, I have a 79 245 and want to replace the Brake Booster Check Valve, Any advice would be much appreciated, as far as I can see, it looks like I have to remove the master brake cylinder first. Kind regards Pete
Angus242164 You should be able to just pull it out of the booster. If the master cylinder fluid reservoir is in the way, you can remove the two nuts that hold the master cylinder to the booster and pull it forward to give enough clearance. No need to undo any fluid lines. Make sure you tighten up those two nuts securely when finished, they are two of the three most safety critical nuts on the entire vehicle. The third holds the steering wheel on.
firstcar Hi Angus, Thanks for the advice, one other question would be, where would be the best place to get one from, and do you have any idea how much one would be expected to pay for one. Pete.
Angus242164 Any brake place will have one, they are a generic part, just bring a sample. I probably have a new one here, can check if you like.
firstcar Hi Angus, that would be great, doesn't appear to have too much room to move though. Do you know where I can get easy to follow step by step instructions? Kind regards Pete
VolvoDeger that is someone has put the master cylinder reservoir on the wrong way, lift the container off and turn it around then should be easy to access
Angus242164 The reservoir is symmetrical I'm pretty sure, so I don't think you will get any more clearance by turning it around. Instructions: remove the two 17mm nuts holding the master cylinder to the booster, and pull the cylinder forward. Pry the valve out, lube the new valve and push it in, refit master cylinder. That's the early type valve, not so generic, but I may have a used one here.
