Hire cars are faster and perform better than anything anyone owns.
We did a Tassie trip in 2008 maybe and had a Tiida for a few days while we toured around.
The thing did brilliant handbrake turns.... everywhere!

We were just talking about Taswegia today my 17 yo daughter n me , drove past the ferry to pick up the 12 yo.
Seafood!!!
Calmness.
Trees.
We want to go.

If before school start or in first holidays or long weekend? I dunno , I am one day at time here.. .Will talk to Family , they will be keen on QLD but Tassie is ace , haven't been for years!!

I could do March. 2-4 days probably. If it's a couple of days id just fly over though.

For all you tassie guys out there, we could potentially do an early December "Christmas" cruise. Reasonable-ish East Coast drive where we come back out at Perth from Elephant Pass. Or there is the potential to hit up some of the nice and windy roads on the way to the west coast (I've never been there before so it could be exciting). Depends how many of you are from the north and South?

You live on the Isle and you haven't driven all the good roads??
I live in VIC and have been on a lot of them there! Not for years though , looking forward to getting on down again.

I think the North & South split is about equal nowdays. I figure if we can get a bunch of the weird single headed mainlanders over on the boat then a drive from Devonport through Cethana etc & even into Cradle Mt. would start it off well. This could easily end up at Barringwood estate where I now live, big house, lots of space to crash, plenty of Volvo content & a dirty great cellar ;)
Then off down the West Coast. It might depend on how willing people are to drive long distance but you can go from Burnie to Hobart via the West Coast in a day...the drive up out of Queenstown is bloody brilliant! There's a few pubs etc along the way for lunch, mining museum, the ABT railway, few good short walks etc & cheap caravan parks.
Hobart could be a day of rest where we go to Mona, drive up Mt. Wellington, just see the sights etc.
Then off up the East Coast, there's a massive sheep farming property called the Grange just out of Swansea we can use, big house that is generally empty.
Big drive up through elephant pass, st Mary's, avoca etc gets us back to the Midland highway where the southerners can head back south & vice versa. Alternatively a route towards the weldborough hotel would be great too.

Plenty of options & so much good road.

Going through Queenie to Hobart would be good, I havent been past Gormanston and would be keen to do the rest of the road to Hobart. The east coast is always good, particularly during the wamer months.
