Hi all,
I'd like to thank those who have helped me with my very amateur queries before. I've actually saved the advice on my PC in a file of handy 240 tips, and have passed it on to a mate who like me, is new to the Volvo family. Many thanks!
I have access to a 1987 240 wagon. I want to use it is as a donor car for my 1990 240 wagon, mainly for the auto gearbox and the CPU. My 1990 has a pink sticker CPU and the 1987 has a yellow sticker.
Can anyone tell me if these two vehicles are straight swappers? I don't want to purchase the donor to find the bits are not the same.
Cheers,
Warren.

Hey Warren, the CPUs are interchangeable provided they have identical plugs. Though the plugs may outwardly look similar, LH-2.2 is something like 16 pins, whereas LH-2.4 is around 35 pins.

Failing that, post up the part numbers and someone will be able to help work it out. They'll be Bosch numbers, e.g. 0 280 123 456

1987 will have LH2.2, 1990 will be LH2.4. the ECUs are not interchangeable between the two systems.

Thanks for the advice James and Duncan. Do either of you know if the gearbox from the 1987 or a 1989 model will go into my 1990 wagon?

Should both be AW 4 speed boxes.
Not sure if the 90 will have lock up converter or not though.

They can, but its probably also worn out so no point unless you have a rebuilt torque converter and auto.
