familyman I see lots of 240s with rear corners of the bonnet have been lifted upwards from the guards (from people opening it without ever lubricating the hinges). Is this usually just the hinge that has been bent? Or has the body section the hinge is bolted to been popped upwards?
familyman Yeah, I've seen the above... But what I meant was when people don't lubricate the hinges, they gradually get stiffer over time. Then one day they open the bonnet, lift it, and the hinges and/or the car body bends. They close the bonnet again, but now the back corners of the hood now sit higher above the level of the front guards. None of my 240s have had it, but I've seen plenty of others.
Volvo2106 I just replaced one hinge for the same reason. Part of the hinge was bent. I guess because the hinge wasn't lubricated. Easy change.
familyman @Volvo2106 - So was the hood sitting higher than normal, and did replacing the hinge bring it down level with the top of the front guards again?
VolvoHordz Its normally the bonnet that is bent as opposed to anything else. I've had success getting someone to sit on the bonnet over the hinge area while someone else tries to open the bonnet. ie the reverse of what caused the bend in the first place. Try it at your own risk though.
Angus242164 I've seen many bent and even some snapped hinges, and the bonnet often bends forward of the hinges, but the body is never effected, that area is very strong.

carnut1100 In all of the 240s that I and family members have owned I've seen that happen a few times. Occasionally the hinge bends but usually the bonnet.
