Our 2008 S40 has a misaligned drivers window seal. Local dealer ordered seal 4 weeks ago (!) and it came in Wednesday. Went to replace it and they said the window is quite broken in bottom half due to seal, there is now a visible crack at front. They want $1400 to replace window and seal!
Windscreens O'brien will do it for less than $600 if I supply the seal.
Where can I get a reasonably priced window seal strip? The Dealer wants over $200 for this. I know the part number.
This weekends work is to remove AC clutch and remove shims to hopefully get AC working properly again.
Thanks, Chris

Get a used window.
Talk to guys here from your area and barter a repair job.
It's National Meet this weekend, you may need to wait.

Thanks Snoopy. Amazed a seal will break a window..

Did you see the broken window?
I doubt some places honesty... well, most....

Yes there is now a crack extending above the sill at front of door. Dealer said it is basically held together by the tinting.
When I first went to dealer I though it might have been the guides. One of the techs pullled the glass up and rocked back and forward and said it wasn't the guides. I doubt it would have been broken at that time to be able to do that. You could see distortion in the front seal and the window wasn't running in it properly.
Wife spoke to Volvo and they will ring me Monday after talking with their techs. Dont think a seal should take 4 weeks. Then again I dont think the window should be broken either... Very odd.
Happy to get Windscreens Obrien to replace it if I can get the seal. Will check with Volvo that is the correct seal as the dealer said the one they ordered and received wasn't the right one now..?? Perplexed I am..
I also doubt some places honesty.

Sounds to me like it should be a warranty repair.
Even outside warranty period s product should have an expected lifespan and be fit for use, not breaking down or failing as you would expect.
Consumer affairs can help with wording to put to them.
I bet it happens elsewhere, they just don't want anyone to know these things....
My brother in law was promoted from shop floor to parts and parts manager to service manager at a very large country dealer of Aussie and German and Japanese cars.
He left because of the lying he was expected to do to customers and the overcharging and rorting that occurred.....
Mongrels.

Fixed the Air Con clutch, was easy. Easier if I had a puller (used a harmonic balancer puller) to begin with!
Removal of the inner guard allowed full access to A/C and no need to loosen A/C bolts or remove the belt.
Ony two shims. Meant to take a photo of the access, but forgot....

Snoopy. My brother has gone through a career something like your BIL. He works OS in the motor-trade. He had a few things to say when he rang me Friday!
