WTB VOLVO 242GT & RWD wagon.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. not a Volvo in my garage at the moment but I'm on the hunt for couple.

Firstly I'm after a 242GT, moded or unmoded. Needs to be manual, straight and registered in any State. I'm based in the south west of WA and will freight the right car.

Secondly, I'm after a 70/80's RWD wagon. This one needs to be straight auto or manual, any colour and doesn't needs to be mechanically A1. It does though need to be registered and fairly tidy.

I'm not in a hurry to purchase, November looks like a good time for me so if you do know of anything that would be worth a look at please let me know.

Thanks for the welcome Snoopy. The only 242GT I have found so far looks like it's in the Gosford Car Museum. Perhaps a tad too heavy on the price, but if that's life, so be it. Still doing my research so it's not like I'm about to pull out too my coins if I don't have to. I've been known to scrub up a crusty one one but it still need to be in fairly good shape but not necessarily concourse condition. Where's the fun in that?

$15K is a crackpipe price for a 242 with 210,000 km+ on it and no unusual history or features.

FYI there's one on Gumtree in Wittlesea (Melbourne) for $5.5K and it has 50,000 less kays on it than Mr Crackpipe's museum piece.

But still too much for my blood. Me? I'd go shopping in the US for a good 84 model 242 TIC, which can be picked up, fixed up, and imported for less than what Mr Crackpip is asking.

Thanks for the heads up on that one. Oddly enough it hadn't come up on my searches. Looks to be a good project for someone. I'll keep it on my radar.
Having done numerous projects previously, albeit not Volvos, I'm prepared to pay good money, not as you've mentioned 'crack pipe money' for a presentable car.
My current project has nearly been 5 years in the making and it's not quite finished yet I'm aware that to do things right takes time, money and research to find all the right bits.
What I see there is some panel and paint and ain't that cheap these days, not likely. Yes I can paint, I'm on the improve,but do I really want to, well not likely.
Keep them coming guys, I appreciate it and I won't mention which other Euro brand I normally restore.

OK, because you asked so nicely Morgan. It all began with this for my current project. It was destined for the crusher but upon inspection the body was pretty good with minimal rust. It had no engine or trans. So I bought her home in November 2011. Her name is Ginger, as in Gilligans Island. She's a MB, 1975 C114 coupe and she's had a lot of my blood, sweat but no tears put into her.

Thanks, some folks are fussy. I'm select but open minded. I do prefer coupes but I've been known to get sedans, wagons and the odd ute. Here's another that was crusher bound. Just needed a few things and some TLC. It had a Bahn storming 5 litre quad cam engine that the PO had sunk some serious money into an engine rebuild. He'd lost his license and gave up. He stored at his dad's place, dad was moving and the car had no home. Purchase price $0.00- The top photo was when I picked it up, it looked ready for a burial. The bottom is after the resto.

And where I'm at with this project. Next step is to upgrade the fuel injection system, it was originally d-jet, but the engine I've put in is carbied, ew. The plan is 6 throttle bodies with a Stinger ECU. I've also converted to manual and changed the diff to a 4.08 from 3.69 along with a plethora of other things. I intend on competing in a few Historic tarmanc rally's.

Luck and some skill is what you'll need bigal.
I had a look at your project, looks like you will be able to blow the barn doors off should you put some beefy in it. I'm a tad partial to Barra's, tidy and unassuming. That's what I want to implant in a wagon.
Can anyone spot the Volvo part on my red coupe?

Second choice is correct. The spoiler came from a Volvo, can't remember which model though. I guy in the States posted a picture of his so I contact him and told me how to mod so it would fit.
