HAR45 Hi all, I am chasing a 1030 diff (disc to disc) in a 3.7 ratio. Would anybody have an idea what diff would be this this car? Is it a case of it must come out to know? I tried to post an image but can't at work. The car is a '79 264 GLE sedan. Kind regards, Tim
VolvoHordz Looking on the back side of the diff, there should be a white sticker on the left hand side about half way along the axle tube. If its missing/cant be read then you just need to jack up a rear wheel, spin the input shaft and comparing that to how much the wheel rotates. No idea what ratio that car would have come with of the top of my head and could well have been changed over the years in any case.
Spac Jack up BOTH rear wheels and count the turns or jack up one wheel, count the turns and then multiply by 2. Or you could pull the cover plate off and count the teeth. A '79 model would have had a 1030 (and probably - but not definitely - still will).
Angus242164 1030 3.54, assuming the car is auto. 1031 3.73's are found in manual and automatic 240's from about '83 to '87.
A_Volvo_Driver Looks like the sticker says 3.54 there EDIT: Looking at the link above, it's a 1030 w/3.54 ratio.
HAR45 Thanks familyman. Scott I liked at the thread and determined it a 1031 with 3.54. It isn't lsd as only one side spins if turned. It does have Volvo writing and a big V on the diff housing. That normal?
Angus242164 3.54 is certainly the ratio, not sure on the part numbers but looking at the housing there appears to be one strengthening rib extending from the axle tube towards the pinion flange, which normally indicates 1030 type. 1031's have two ribs there, one above the other. LSD's in Volvo's in Australia are pretty much non existent, given that Volvo marketed them as a snow traction aid. Is that tailshaft twisted?
