So, you're a tow truck driver, without a tow truck?
Philia_Bear
Pretty much....
Also went up againt a 2012 A5 3.0TDI S-line and lost badly...
apperently 7 speeds and 200KG less weight does help things (for the audi)
Has convinced me more that its time to dump the DPF and put a tune onto the car...
280WHP is the limit of the stock turbo so thats what I'm going with....
Puts me into stock 535d teritory with a 6 second 0-60 time
Another thing I have noticed... with the new fuel system the car smokes less and just overall runs better...
Vee_Que
Nothing wrong with a daily also being a good tow car!
Less smoke is due to injectors not being worn out, no DPF will bring back smoke though. Wonder what I can get out of an E280 or XF Diesel.....
Slowbrick
I will have 3 extra cars to add to this thread of things getting towed. Not looking forward to it though :(
Philia_Bear
car number one for slowbrick

I get to drive it again tomorrow
haza
also picking up tyres on friday

Alt died this morning
Sigh
Going to pull it cause easy and then see if its just the volt regulator
I hope it is because they are dirt cheap and easy to get
Philia_Bear
So took the car over to John at Fina Auto and mad props to him I got a new reman Bosch Alt for $450
Alt now charges great and its fixed some of the other issues with low battery that i used to have on occasion

Last Tuesday I was driving the car home from work, doing 90 in the section right before the bridge where the M4 turns to 100kph
engine stumbled twice and then instantly died with lots of flashing lights etc...
I was quite impressed with just how instantly it told me I was fucked...
So hazards on and pushed my way into the break down lane much to the dislike of a trukkie
tried to re-start and got nothing at all...
went hunting for the OBD2 tool and realized it was missing (hrm....)
checked the messages in the i-drive system and saw "failed fuel pump" so just called the NRMA
NRMA Guy showed up about an hour later (nice bloke from the UK)
had a look at it and saw lots of air in the fuel lines (they are clear in the engine bay)
So got a tow home
Called Allianz and then the workshop that did the work on Wednesday
booked in for tomorrow(Monday morning)
Allianz are being nice and paying for the tow
Philia_Bear
Then tonight went out and used the BMW's inbuilt diagnostics
left tank is showing 15L, right tank is showing 0L
Pump error as well confirms no fuel in the right tank
The system uses a venturi to drag fuel from the left tank to the right tank where the main pump is located
so if you have less then 1/3rd a tank it should always show L = 0 (or close to 0) and right = >0
The people replaced everything inside the tank so this it totally on them
I'm going to find out what went wrong and then potentially have a huge whinge at them if it was dodgy people as opposed to parts
just glad it didn't happen to ryan while he was out in the middle of nowhere towing
Philia_Bear
Got a call from the shop today
looks like the pump is gone which sucks for them as BMW only provides 90 days on parts and its past that
I'm bringing them my spare tomorrow just so they can test it on the bench to verify what they are seeing is right
either way the pump is in stock in sydney so worst case is I get the car back on wednesday
XC90 is so slow and fat by comparison.....

Is it nearing a point in time where you will retire the bmw? Or do you just put the latest issue down to one of those things?
