79 series is more interesting, more power and I fit. Plus more practical. They are very much a poser mobile because of the petrol motor.

79 series is a fair bit pricier to make behave as a day to day car and about twice the price to start with.

Needs more 3ur

I also like 79 series but as it will be my wife's car and she hates them , also almost double the price and fj's are fantastic off road so there more than just poser cars they can actually back it up .

Only Americans like them, they are the same as a hilux underneath, so once you spend 15k on it, of course it can do things like that, which look pretty poserish vs the hard 4x4ing stuff I see live axle 4x4s do. ifs sucks for proper off roading without a diff drop etc.
morgan
I'm not American I'm English and I like them , they stopped making them in lhd for the American market 2 years ago as they didn't like them but for 2 more years in rhd ?
Vee_Que
Maybe the local Japanese market loves them? the fact they don't come in a diesel despite being a hilux/prado underneath, tells me it is for America.

But for 30 grand brand new seems like a solid base , and the picture was just for fun would only be used for hard to reach camping spots
Vee_Que
Wow, that is a massive price drop from the 45 that they were at....

They are keen to make deals to clear them

As I said we get 30% off our company car as part of the close down package at Toyota , they are currently 46 + Orc
morgan
Actually make that $24000 as it will be 10 months old if we purchase it after the initial package $30000 if we bought it straight out now , so even more appealing

i can't understand the love for the 7x series land cruisers. I've never driven one but I've heard they have a wider track up front because of the v8 diesel which makes sand driving even more horrible than usual because the rear jumps between the ruts created by the front tyres. Also heard they are pretty shit front seats and interior.
200 series on the other hand...
I've stopped pushing my dmax on the trails, I know it's IFS limitations and just enjoy the main trails, I don't want to bust a drive shaft and spend the night in the bush with a whinging 5 & 8 year old. I've had my fun and gotten away with it, based on a false sense of "it's brand new" security.
If I ever want to pursue the hard 4x4 lyf, I'll buy an already modded 200 series, or disco, and be prepared to really open my wallet,

I had a Range Rover and loved it but with a 3 , 5 , 8 and 42 year olds I to don't want to get stuck !!

A 79 for me, I fit with good headroom. The Thai built utes, im in the headlining, yes the track is not right on the 79s, but that can easily be fixed vs a diff drop kit. And the extra mass in a 79 for me, would make a better tow vehicle if I needed something like that. Otherwise, 2004 Range rover with the bmw diesel that has a rebuilt auto.... Perfect, I also fit well in them. unlike the p38 and classic rangie.
In general, Japanese things are not made for people with long torsos!

I have plenty of room in a mini !

Try being 6'4" then..
