bigal Anyone got one of these old Merc OM636 diesel engines laying around or know of someone that may have one?
bigal It was in a few different models of mercs I believe from the very late 40s to early 60s. It's to go into my latest barn-find. A 1954 170S-D which is missing the engine. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_OM636
Ex850R See if Bob Sell has any , he is the best Euro tech I know. A magician with Mercedes at least. http://www.yellowpages.com.au/vic/south-geelong/bob-sell-automotive-repairs-14328840-listing.html
bigal Thanks guys. Some good leads there. Here's my Merc! Isn't she loverly! It's been in that barn for over 30years.
bigal Yep will be keeping the patina. Rad hey! Will have to address the rust at the bottom of the door skins but from my good look over it on the weekend she's solid structurally. It gets delivered tomorrow. Getting excited. I'm a fan of keeping things as original as possible so it will be powered by 400HP! No wait, make that 40HP. :-) But if I can't find a motor I will be forced to put something else in there I guess. I want to drive it and blow people's minds.
Ex850R Iirc Bob Sell had one of these back in the 80/90s I reckon it was his. Black , of course. Have a chat to him , he is a man with much knowledge. Remember me too him , I must go and visit. *I wonder if my old AlfaSud is still in his paddock....
bigal No history. The seller's father who has passed away aquired it over 30 years ago as it is, no engine. I can't imagine many people would import an engine-less car to tas so presume it's been in tas for a long time.
Ex850R Can't have been too many in Australia at all I imagine. Bob is old enough to maybe know about the movement of these things around the country. He made a 280S I took to him for a mate sing after having so called terminal head/valve issues by normal mechanic. That car was sold , the stupid people didn't take it to him and paid up for a head reco. Wizard!
bigal I will give him a call. Thanks. Apparantly there are only 2 of these sedan versions known to have been in tas - This one and another up here in the north somewhere. And there are 2 ute variations around.
