  • [gumtree] 850R manual wagon in red in Adelaide

Just wondering if any person had inspected this wagon. 250 k on the clock, $6500 asking price. It's a manual, wondering if any person had seen this vehicle and had been compelled to immediately buy or immediately walk away? Cheers, Skip.
6500? No one would go near that.
If it's really nice, it might pull $4k on a good day. $3k or less would be more like it.
Hi Chaps, Here's the link. Thanks for any input. I owned a green 850 sedan a few years ago and enjoyed the dynamics of the vehicle, aside from the usual ABS and other sundry dash lights blinking on and off, dash components dropping off, sagging headlining, etc. It was a bit of a sleeper, a bit of a rocket ship. Not hard I guess, as my previous was a rusty 25 year old Toyota Corona wagon ... There seem to be many spares and after market stuff to keep these on the road. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/mount-barker/cars-vans-utes/volvo-850-r-manual-wagon/1115675778
    Ohh , an R!!
    Just like mine was!
It could sell for that price then.
    An R, not a T5!
$6500 is probably about the right asking price for a manual R wagon.
The letter R on the tailgate adds quite a lot to the price. They've already got a strong element of collectibility, which both inflates and (partially) justifies the higher price.
Less than 30 manual R wagons in Australia , o my 80 something R wagons brought in. Who knows how many left.
They really should be worth more going by that rarity.
It's a pity the trims have been made black rather than charcoal. Same for grille , was chrome. RIP kit 'may' help induction but not original.
Is this not the manual R you looked at a year so so back? @Spac
Thanks for the advice (and confirmation) chaps, I might lock in. My other car is a Mercedes 380 SEC ... Astrid, a gorgeous, sub 200 k 30 year old wood and leather euro barge ... my Sunday car. The Volvo would be a daily driver - I presume the 850 R would be reliable enough to fulfill this role ... By the way, I enjoy the Oz Volvo site, there seem to be more than a few characters here ...

If it's the same car, it has had a big tidy up.
The car I drive was a slug. You'd never pay $6500 for a performance car that went as slowly as it did... I couldn't come at $1800 for that example, even though it later went on ebay for $4k-ish (IIRC).

Skip, a manual 850 is probably the least troublesome 20yo car out there. There's a few semi-regular gremlins that strike them down, but none of particularly difficult to overcome.
    Go for it.
It seems to be looked after.
I bet it will need a "stage 0 " done for all the usual items so look at vac hoses etc and assume cash will be spent.
Do ask why new coolant bottle was put in as it 'may' have been a failure which does a head gasket very quickly. Check compression on each cylinder to be sure.
Put in an order with ROCKAUTO for all the stage 0 parts , some from FCP EURO or IPD and make it trouble free for another 250K driving.
    Being a NSW car
I have only seen 2 red manual wagons for sale in the last 5-6 years. One was the one Spac inspected the other is a repaired write off owned by a bar manager near me.
I would never have sold my RED R....
A pretty young thing took its soul.
I kept the wreck for a long time.....
derrr I miss read the plate forget the above comments
Hey Snoopy, Spac and Nicko - thanks again for your input. I recall watching BOC touring car racing back in the '90's and seeing these stylish bricks being pounded around euro tracks by Rydell and others. I particularly like the idea of a sedate looking Q car, befitting the attitude (and spread) of a grumpy old man. Cheers, guys!
