In the process of removing the head and am under the impression the engine must be aligned to TDC before I can do this and remove the camshaft?

For most engines you line up the timing mark on the harmonic balancer with the marks on the block. Unsure of the details for that engine.
Edit: note that the marks will line up for TDC for both cylinder 1 and cylinder 6 (top of compression for 1 is top of exhaust for 6 and visa versa, TDC is top of compression), so you need to check the distributor cap and make sure the spiny bit is pointing at the lead for cylinder 1. B30 might be different firing order but it's unlikely, straight 6s are usually paired front/back (1/6, 2/5 and 3/4).
There is also usually marks at the top of the cams which point straight up at TDC for cylinder 1 only, as the cams turn once for every 2 turns of the crank.

Awesome thank you for the help!

You don't have to have it on Tdc to pull it apart, just make sure when u assemble u line up the dots on the timing gears and that will be Tdc on number 1
