88 Volvo 240 Sedan front rotor confusion

Hi.

I am about to change front Struts , brake rotors and pads. Having confusion on what rotors to order. the pads that came out of the from are DB1173. Sparesbox has a listing for PBR380 (girling) Should take db549 pads or PBR383 which look not ventilated.

It looks like I have girling calipers as they have a big G on them not sure on what rotors though. Anyone else had this issue.

DB549 is the pad to suit the Girling caliper I believe, there are vented and non-vented Girling calipers, both take the same pads.

Almost all 240's in Australia have Girling front calipers, but a small number of Aussie assembled cars around '87-'88 seem to have had ATE calipers. Can you take a pic of your brakes and post it?

ATE calipers take a 24mm vented rotor, compared to the 22mm vented Girling rotor. I got some ATE calipers off an early 264 - I always thought this was the only source until Angus just said otherwise.

The two different types of Girling calipers (solid vs vented rotor) take different pads. The G on the caliper makes it a Girling one, so the answer should be easy to work out (unless I've misunderstood your question).

A bit of info from the Bendix catalogue:

It doesn't give dimensions like their paper catalogues used to, but the pictures appear to show the same backing plate, with a slightly differently shaped friction surface. Both should be interchangeable.

No distinction between solid or vented rotors is given for any 240 pads in their catalogue, I'm pretty certain solid/vented Girling calipers take the same pads.

It has a smaller surface area as far as I can tell, I personally think the Girling calipers are the better ones to have.
