FM ok but am intermittent and loss of level.
From a quick google sounds like a manufacturing defect in the radio module. Has anyone found a simple hardware fix?
What constitutes mechantable quality for a $1500 radio with volvo oz? Had vehicle from new but well out of warranty.

From internet browsing the loss of am seems a common problem. I have no answer either. A search found someone sorted their problem by changing the antennae.
I have a question though.
I have a 12/2005 V50 with a single cd player but want a multi cd player. What do I need to consider before buying one from a low km wreck? Can it be done without too much bother?
There's also a GROM unit installed.

@pauljloz the AM section was dead on my V50 when I bought it, had it repaired but it wasn't cheap. It is common and is a component failure issue. Berry advised it was cheaper to repair than replace due to coding but it was a saga in the end because the guy Berry uses took absolutely forever to do it (they did warn me but...).
@boxerboy81 see above - the coding is what will cost you so best to seek advice before pulling the trigger

@pauljloz Thanks.
So if I score a second hand unit that comes with a code will I have problems?
@Chris Without the code it sounds like it's not as simple as going to a dealer with a vin number to get the code?
pauljloz
It may be but the sh unit is also likely to fail.
Personally I now stream am on my phone connected via aux input !!
Chris
@boxerboy81 it isn't the security code for the radio that's the issue, the unit has to be coded to the car I believe

Put in a DAB and am /fm unit?
I know Parrott make one that may have the phone hands free stuff as well. They seems to be small units like a grow perhaps.
Alas it seems that at 10 years old a car is dying quickly.
Get a 1990s car and but all the new spares you can to keep it alive is the only option unless buying new regularly.... Sad.

OK, thanks all. It sounds like chasing dodgey with dodgey. I might pass on the idea. Cheers.
