Engine rebuild almost ready to fitted , what turbo should I upgrade too to replace standard 13g ? And what do people have for sale ?
GingerNinja
Is everything completely stock at the moment?
morgan
Bigger rods , valves , forged pistons , kg2t cam
Complete rebuild .
morgan
Plus 3 inch turbo back exhaust ( no cat ) also fitted . M46 box

You're going to get a bunch of opinions on this one!
Standard engine management and injectors at the moment? What are your power goals?
morgan
Yep standard Ecu as its on club plates and standard injectors until engine and cam are run in , power goals not sure but with the stronger base than previous skinny rod motor I would like to notice a substantial difference to show for the $$$ spent
GingerNinja
The M46 might not enjoy your new power goals.
morgan
Yes they need to be safe for the m46 so nothing to crazy

Something that can be upgraded on the cold side? but usable now...16T/15g?

Remember the moment you change injectors that will cause issue with your club plates.
So could a lot of other upgrades. Some stuff will get the cheek turned some other stuff won't.
Full reg...go bananas then if you get pinned it only looks bad on you not the whole club.
The other option, go bananas get all your dreams engineered.
In saying all this t5 box ported and t3 machined 90+ manifold with a t3 platform turbo will see great results.
morgan
No only doing what will keep it on club plates , can't justify 3 regos , didn't think upgrading injectors would be a problem

Could you get stock injectors drilled out? Nizpro used to do this with Bosch injectors
Philia_Bear
Stock would have been a 13c but did you swap it for a fwd turbo at some point?
19t is a dam good upgrade and will look stock as well
You would want to consider doing the flat flange housing which would require some work to your downpipe to make it fit
Will still easily look stockish though

Standard garrett charger

You can high flow injectors. With the abundance of cheap injectors now it's not as common. (Though like I was saying injectors are something that are easily overlooked by inspectors)
The 3 factory turbos on redblocks were all with in a very similar spec of eachother. One flowing a smidge better lower (I believe the garret) the td0512b suffering down lower and the td0413c being the more rounded.
There are lots of things that we don't consider to be a no go zone. Though them more you read the CPS, Vicroads and the EPA regulations the more sad you get.
Things like dump pipes, open air intake elements, throttle bodies. (Most of these refer back to EPA more than CPS alone)
Things like the T5 box swap, yes it needs engineers that's something we have all agreed on, though it's not considered a major modification that you will need M plates.
And getting a t5 box signed off for your cars is very simple and inexpensive

You currently have a pre 90 manifold and td05 12c, throw them out/sell them and get a 90+ manifold, and a td04 16t or GT2871 as recommended before, if you keep the stock pre 90 exhaust manifold, there is no point in trying to get a better turbo as they really suck for air flow and restrict the head.
A ported 90+ with a td04 16t or 18t will keep your box alive, if you break it, you will need engineering to put a t5 in, but it will be worth it to go on "m" plates. combine that with an all alloy intercooler and it will be a new car.

For the 200kw it seems you are chasing, it is interesting you got valve work done before sorting the gearbox. But each to their own. And that engine should be a really solid base.
My recommendations would be as follows;
Garrett:
-GT28xx
-GT30xx
Volvo/mitsu
-18T
-19T
Holset
-HX30
T3 being the flange type. I agree with Alex about the 90+ manifold.

Also, going to an aftermarket ecu like megasquirt means you need engineering also. And you won't make the power you want with the standard ecu.
morgan
No after market ecu will see how we go with the power after the rebuild with the 531 head and kg2t cam and upping the boost now I will have stronger 152mm rods and wiseco pistons , and maybe +90 manifold and turbo once engine is run in.
