1uzvolvo After a lot of years missing events like this, I'm looking at getting to Winton at the end of the month for a bit of fun. I'm assuming that getting the car right is a priority, but what else needs to be considered. What's the best time to get there. I assume the boot needs to be emptied, but what happens to everything. Is fuel available on site? How many cars are on track at one time. On-site food? Sessions are 20min each, so if the track time starts at 10am, what time does it finish. Etc, etc, etc. Anyone else considering a day out? I'm interested in any/all info so the day can be enjoyed.
Tree Hey mate a few of us are heading down. Best time is about 10-12 IMO. First outing will be around 8pm but huge queue. Earliest arrivals also get best parking spots with shade etc. They will ask you to empty everything that can move around, spare tyre. Fuel is sometimes available on site but very expensive. Most either bring a Jerry can or fill up at caltex in benella about 15min away. With a full tank you probably won't empty unless you go out every time or fuel heavy car. There is food on site like burgers hot dogs chips etc. It can get very packed during the day I guess up to 20-30 cars but quieter in the afternoon finishing at 4pm. Bring a helmet, long sleeve shirt or jacket and pants. And water. There's info on the winton website but I've basically summed it up for ya!
Tree Whoops sorry yeah. Gates open at 8am but track time starts after 10am briefing. Strutineering will be on all day so don't worry if you come a bit later. Would love to see the 142 on the track if somehow you can make it, it will defs get some attention from the cameras and crowd! Here's some motivation:
1uzvolvo Thanks for the info. 9-10am seems a bit more civilised than 8am. Just want to let off some winter steam, and if I miss out on shade I won't worry too much. Jay, I went to a Corvette drive day back in March and it seemed that flames from the bonnet was the norm. Never seen so many fire extinguishes get used.
deleted_user_160 Damn!!!! Maybe I'll fit right in then? It will get trailered up regardless. That way if I kill
Tree How's everyone's preparations proceeding? I've got quite a bit of work today and tomorrow but mechanically car is ready. Shall we convoy it up? I'll be coming with a few mates too but it would be nice for team Volvo to unite together at the pits haha. Also is anyone bringing a jack? I've got the Costco one which is a little heavy...
deleted_user_160 My TTI unit is like the cosco one. Just all steel. So ultra heavy as well. Which way are you heading up Tri?
1uzvolvo Good morning. I'm going up and staying with rello's on Friday night in Benalla so I'll be fresh for the day. I have a aluminium jack I can take. Was planning to get there about 9am.
Tree In hindsight I should have spent the extra $50 and got the TTI all aluminium. TTI steel is a bloody anvil. I'm heading from from mulgrave which is south east and may be picking up a few people as well as rendezvousing. Might be best to select a rendezvous point sometime after the city since you are up north Jay. Julian are you driving up or carpooling? I may have a spare room... Good plan staying at benella for the night. Unfortunately my stock oil cooler adapter plate is leaking bad suspect the o rings which is a small PITA hopefully SMG or Berry stock it
Tree Will try to find borrow a camera (have mount) for in car video otherwise I'll get someone to film it during passenger laps!

Ghettobird Friggin awesome day guys, Thanks to everyone generous enough to take me out for passenger laps! @1uzvolvo, You seem to have achieved both form and function with your 282, you have defied the laws of physics. An absolute cracker of a car! @Tree, Your 740 may as well be on rails. The BCs really do it justice
Tree Shame I didn't get to sit in the V8 Volvo, will come earlier next time as I could've squeezed more track time but alas, I came home from from workshop at 6am lol. Thanks Julian the car performed admirably, as a shakedown it was a success besides a few minor gremlins. Grip is very impressive despite old/hard tyres running at 50psi and no wheel alignment. Attempted to film on the last run of day but it was cut short unfortunately, very very sad. (Ready in a few)
1uzvolvo What a great day. Thought at the start it would be too wet to get any decent track time but thankfully the weather cleared. Julian, thanks for the comment. I was pleasantly surprised myself with how the car performed. Certainly not a track car that's for sure but it put a smile on my dial. Will look forward to the next fun day.
